of course this is awesome. awesomeness is simply what the pages are made out of.
it is kind of like the FRIENDS version of space travel sci-fi. it's always funny. always impossible. and everybody gets caught at the wrong moment. sketchiness is acceptable and expected. and you can watch it for hours and hours and hours.

I wanted to like it
Revisado: 09-11-23
I really wanted to like this book. I have read all the others by the same author. At some point I think perhaps I had an epiphany because I was listening to the story. But I was unable to finish that last hour. I considered this hard to listen to.
With classic writing, the problem with infinite possibilities is that no one cares anymore. You could have destroyed the entire planet and I probably wouldn't have got emotional. And while there may be some truth in that to where we stand in the importance of reality, I had to stop listening.
I didn't think the science was that explanatory. It was left me with the impression that I didn't know if I believed it or not. Were they trying to sell me fiction or a real idea? Since I've read the other books by the same author I know that some of it was meant to be true. But it was hard to tell which.
In other philosophical discussions we often put down the concept of death that gives life its value. I have always strongly believed in life after death, but the event of death has always meant to be important. And I feel like they trivialized that. Like death didn't matter because you could just create a parallel reality and live with your loved ones.
That defies every concept of life after death I have ever encountered. The idea that yes we are alive after this life, but not subject to the whims and the abuse of other people. It made it seem like I could be called into any reality and simply tortured for the fun of it. I don't believe that is true and I don't even like the idea.

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

I lost trust in the author.
Revisado: 03-19-22
I really enjoyed the first book and it was well on my way to enjoying the second one. The author has been very creative with character development and action plots. Even though those developments and characteristics were often unrealistic they were funny and entertaining.
As many of the other reviews say, there was plenty and perhaps too much sex. I don't mind that at all but it began to dominate the storyline. The entire story seem to become about him giving her stuff and then sucking it out later. Where things went South on me was when the author began to hint at a three-way with the loyal hound, (a wolverine.) Whether that happened or not, I don't know because I stopped listening. I realize that I'm not ready to have my primary love interests in the novel take it to that level. And I wasn't going to take the risk on the book, to wonder if they were going to spring multi-partner love scenes on me. I get the that romance and erotica are not always the same thing. But I had begun to believe that this was a romance book.

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Freaking open a window.
Revisado: 03-18-22
This author is compared to Sarah Mass, but maybe like a ninja compared to a samurai. She is more likely to get the point and do it quickly, yet, half the book seemed like a drawn out love scene where the lovers morph and twist in a way the keeps it hot and interesting.
Heavy action, hot love senses, never know who to trust except that there are THINGS you can trust.

In this follow-up to Erich von Däniken's worldwide best seller Chariots of the Gods, the author reveals startling new evidence that could prove his theory that ancient Earth had contact with aliens. Von Däniken claims that an alien race helped to create the pyramids of Egypt, a claim he based upon the ruins themselves.

I am not an expert at much. And I'm beginning to appreciate that more and more. I do not agree with the experts so many things. I enjoy the perspectives and the efforts that amateurs and enthusiasts have come up with about the pyramids in ancient Egypt. It makes more sense to me than the official story.

Historia
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

agreeable, yet missing some fundamental elements.
Revisado: 04-29-21
I learned a lot from this book, but mostly the research aspect of it. The data the author collected I found very insightful. And the categories that he used to summarize different types of morals also very insightful. I feel like the author missed the fundamental reason for morals, though the entire book was basically the attempt to define that. He described morals more as a mechanical system of self-propagation rather than a living intelligence seeking to grow itself. Some of that was there but a little bit light for my taste.
Every consciousness, that can be called such, is essentially alone. If many things make up one consciousness, then it is the consciousness that defines the object. within each human is a consciousness that is a mixture of group and personal. The personal is perhaps the true essence of consciousness for personality, and the group consciousness something closer to God consciousness. In our loneliness, the morals are are effort to reach out to others and collaborate and to build something bigger. It is desired driven, from a single perspective of need.

Have you ever had the nagging feeling that the problems the country faces are spiraling out of control, that the government has lost its way and that, despite its promises, nothing ever changes? Well, you're right. In every instance where government gets involved in people's lives with a desire to do good, it can always be relied on to make the situation much, much worse. Yet despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, we imagine that a world without the state would be a wild and terrifying place.

This is the third book of Dominick's that I have gone through the last two weeks. Very easy to listen to. He offers a completely different perspective of government as we know it. Nothing hostile or rebel just different functionality.

Historia
In 2008, while the world was busy panicking about the global financial crisis, a computer programmer going by the name of Satoshi Nakamoto posted a message on an out-of-the-way mailing list. 'I've been working on a new electronic cash system,' he said. Nobody seemed to care. ‘It might make sense to get some just in case it catches on,’ he suggested. How right he was. What he had programmed would become the world’s most famous alternative currency – Bitcoin.

For most people, tax is something we pay, simply because we must. We seldom think much more about it; in fact, tax is something we'd rather forget. But the reality is that tax is the key to power. No government can survive without tax revenue - it is the fuel that every state, large and small, runs on. Many of the problems we face today, not least the enormous wealth gaps between rich and poor and between generations, can be traced back to our systems of tax.
