A world without women
Revisado: 04-13-25
In this book, the writer seems to imagine a world where women don’t exist. The story does a good balance of romance and political drama. Also, this is Joel Leslies best performance

Historia
It’s 1934. Former medium Dashiel Quicke travels the country debunking spiritualism and false mediums while struggling to stay ahead of his ex-business partner and lover who wants him back at any cost. During a demonstration at a college campus, Dashiel meets Hermann Goschalk, an Egyptologist who’s convinced that he has a genuine haunted artifact on his hands. Certain there is a rational explanation for whatever is going on with Hermann’s relics, Dashiel would rather skip town, but soon finds himself falling for Hermann.

Historia
Alfie Bell is . . . fine. He's got a six-figure salary, a penthouse in Canary Wharf, the car he swore he'd buy when he was 18, and a bunch of fancy London friends. It's rough, though, going back to South Shields now that they all know he's a fully paid-up pansy. It's the last place he's expecting to pull. But Fen's gorgeous, with his pink-tipped hair and hipster glasses, full of the sort of courage Alfie's never had. It should be a one-night thing, but Alfie hasn't met anyone like Fen before.

Cozy blanket, but boring
Revisado: 11-15-24
I got this book because I love the narrator. It was hard for me to get into the story because nothing ever really happens. There are so many times that I want to scream at the characters for getting so much in their heads. Like all this drama about Alfie making Fen stay in town when neither of them live there in the first place.

Tom Clancy, but gay, and no women

Good story, good character development, great performance. I just wish there was at least one female character. Also the emotional passages was a bit long and repetitive

Cozy and slow
Revisado: 10-22-24
I think that the cover and the title really did the story of diservice. I expected more adventure and action in the story, but it was mostly a slow burner with little adventure and more coziness. Scenes dragged out and the dialogue tended to be repetitive. The book could have had better editing. I loved the authors last three books. This one, not so much.
Narration was hard to follow because it would jump between scenes without a pause.
