I know this is a classic and all, but it was really couldn't get into it. Yuck. Total chick thing. And the British accents were so annoying.

Really dug this. Really makes you scared about cult companies like Apple. Read this if you're at all interested in technology, entertainment, communications, or just the future.

Kind of just OK. Not enough plot development for me. Wanted more twists. Plus, a little more historical background would have helped. Why is this are so backward? Why are they so clan-ish? Seemed to be more about atmospherics. About a third of the words seem to be adjectives and adverbs. Plus, he uses some weird devices that are cool at first but get annoying after awhile. He does things like drop articles: Instead of "snow felt to the ground" it's "snow felt to ground". OK, we get it. It's snowing and it falls on the ground.

But I will say the narrator is really excellent and brings the dialect alive. Really nice job. So it's worth it from that standpoint. I mean "the words fell strong upon ears and I left, head busing." Get ready for loads of that sort of stuff.

Excellent narration, interesting historical detail

Really amazing job of narration, with about a dozen different voices and accents. Nice to see book written about WWI instead of WWII.

Good, but a little long

AND there are two readers. The first section is done by a guy doing a basic American accent and then -- for some damned reason -- Johnny Depp starts reading in the second section doing a fake British accent. It gets a little old after a while. I dunno why. Maybe 'cause you know he's faking it.

No big surprises, but educational

I nice book, but kind of a predictable ending. But some real sweet spots between main characters. Descriptions aren't very imaginative, but the historical and geographic background is very educational. It doesn't paint a very nice picture of Afghans and Islam in general. I mean, who would take a fun, casual past time like kite flying and turn it into a cut-throat sport?

As noted, author not great reader. Doesn't change voices for different characters, so hard to tell who's saying what at times.

Whoa! References to 1987? WTF?

This thing must have been written in the late 1980s. But you won't know that from the description. My first clue was him telling you to write away to the AAA to get copies of travel guides to different regions. Umm.... can't you just look on the internet? Then he refers to some guides written in 1986 and 1987. Huh?

But there's still some good timeless advice in here. But really, Audible? Isn't this a subject that requires CURRENT information?

OK, but a little long

Some really good basic points, but a bit too much storytelling. The author DOES do a really nice job at narration. In the end, though, I lost interest. I found myself shouting "I GET it!" at the car radio and looking for a fastforward button. If you're busy planning your business venture, you might want to wait for the abridged version....

Bad acting. And cheesy story -- dated. Hard to finish. I guess that's why it's free. Hey Audible, how about a couple decent things in the free category?? It can't cost you too much and Amazon does it with their free Kindle book offerings.
