The kind of fun books & gaming prepped us for.

Full of fun adventures with huge monsters and characters that talk smack about reality's realities. Read this one. It's is an entertaining book. Not Scalzi's "best," but when a good serious author like him does comedy adventure instead, it's still gold. The good: Constant humor and fascinating biology/zoology with the Kaiju. The bad: So what if a couple of the tropes in here have been done before. That just saves you more brain space to imagine more fun things that could happen in this world.

Excellent psychological murder stories

Picked both audiobooks up on a whim and read ‘em in half a day. Cool concepts, smooth crime stuff, just challenging enough make you think hard, and not so challenging that you dismiss the facts and characters in the story because it’s too chaotic or nuts. Quinto and Scalzi should do more in the future together!

Pretty darn good grungy supernatural novel! MacLeod Andrews is a fantastic narrator. Cool use of biblical myth in its darker forms. The powers seemed a little too over the top and Michael Bay-like at times. Fun book to listen to without needing to think too hard.

A slow savor book. Takes a while for events to get tense and ramp up, but the characters change and grow in entertaining ways later on. Cool analysis of current world issues through a future New York (still grimy, angry, and human) lens. This is more of a book for seeing the world differently than it is for heart-pounding entertainment. Nifty references sprinkled in here for classic literature lovers.

Fans of fantasy, space opera, Inception, naughty jokes, and audiobook narrators bringing characters to joyous life will love Harrow the Ninth.
