Historia
An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since its first publication, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable guide to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. It showcases a menagerie of magical creatures, explained enchantingly by noted magizoologist, Newt Scamander, who you may remember from the film series of the same name.

Too short, but good listen
Revisado: 01-19-18
What made the experience of listening to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them the most enjoyable?
The book is so true to the story and also fills in several subtle, but important blanks about Dumbledore, Grindlewald and serves as a nice entre to Hagrid's role as gamekeeper.
What did you like best about this story?
Too short - left out my favorite magical creatures, redcaps and hinkypunks
What about Eddie Redmayne’s performance did you like?
Well paced and delivered; didn't sound stilted at all - just as if we were having a normal conversation
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes

Space and time form the very fabric of the cosmos. Yet they remain among the most mysterious of concepts. Is space an entity? Why does time have a direction? Could the universe exist without space and time? Can we travel to the past?

Historia
Since its formation nearly five billion years ago, our planet has been the sole living world in a vast and silent universe. Now, Earth's isolation is coming to an end. Over the past two decades, astronomers have discovered thousands of "exoplanets" orbiting other stars, including some that could be similar to our own world. Studying those distant planets for signs of life will be crucial to understanding life's intricate mysteries right here on Earth. In a firsthand account of this unfolding revolution, Lee Billings draws on interviews with top researchers.

Absolutely horrible
Revisado: 12-01-13
What would have made Five Billion Years of Solitude better?
Didn't tell me anything I didn't already know or haven't read elsewhere. Hardly ground-breaking, eye-opening or revealing. Enough whining about SETI already. We have found exoplanets by other means. Talking about how these exoplanets were discovered, the conditions thereon, and the number of exoplanets discovered to-date would have been FAR more captivating.
What didn’t you like about Lee Billings’s performance?
The performance was fine. The book's content was awful
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Five Billion Years of Solitude?
I'd have mentioned what a dead-end SETI is, then moved on to how exoplanets WERE discovered, instead of whining about the past.
Any additional comments?
Can I return this book? This was a horrible mistake.

Save your money
Revisado: 02-19-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not really. Mr. Burds' saying Julius Caesar defeated Marc Antony at the Battle of Actium and then saying Julius Caesar changed his name to Augustus makes me wonder what ELSE is factually incorrect with his lectures.
What could Jeffrey Burds have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Quit preaching and get your facts straight.
What didn’t you like about the narrator’s performance?
Patronizing
Was The Modern Scholar: The Second Oldest Profession, Part 1 worth the listening time?

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

A great, rarely told story
Revisado: 04-18-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Endurance to be better than the print version?
The print version has maps to which one can refer; audio does not. Therefore, I would consider the print version better.
What did you like best about this story?
The sheer grit and determination of these men in the most abysmal circumstances imaginable.
What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
Voice inflection is difficult to impart using the print medium. Mr. Prebble does an excellent job of conveying the consistently long odds facing Shackelton and his men -- and how they returned intact.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
