Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

A sweet and nostalgic tale
Revisado: 08-07-22
I loved it. Engaging characters, interesting setting. Involving plot. I forgave the anachronisms and occasional unlikely plot points. The English narrator had just the right voice and delivery, and I love hearing Brits do American accents.

Historia
On the laid-back island of Bonaire, every day is paradise until a seaweed-entangled human leg washes ashore. Combing the beach, retired cop Roscoe Conklin examines the scene and quickly determines that the leg belongs to the nephew of a close friend. The island police launch an investigation, but with little evidence and no suspects, their progress comes to a frustrating halt. Then, thanks to a unique barter with the lead detective, Conklin finds himself in possession of the case file. He can now aggressively probe for his own answers.

A Good Sturdy Mystery & Fun if you know Bonaire
Revisado: 07-25-22
Because I have been to Bonaire many times, I got a kick out of this thriller set on the island, although I was struck by how unrealistic a few things were. The hero is constantly finding parking in downtown Kralendijk. Ha! He stands in the shade at the Karpata dive site and is not eaten alive by mosquitoes. Ha! Ha! But these are mere quibbles. Mostly his two Bonaire novels are fun reads, with engaging characters and engrossing plots, though as with many other mystery protagonists, knowing his hero is pretty literally the kiss of death, or at least minor maiming. Great summer beach reads ... or listens, since it's an audio book. Well performed by the narrator. Two thumbs up. And that's all I've got, so ... there you go.

Historia
The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Fabulous!
Revisado: 07-03-22
In every sense of the word, come to think of it. Andy Serkis's reading of LotR is a Rings nerd's dream come true. I have read the books at least 30 times, and I loved every minute of Serkis's performance. The voices! The songs! The (vocal) sound effects! Boooom! Doooom! Oh, it just sends shivers up my spine. Thank you so much, Mr. Serkis!

The armies of the Dark Lord are massing as his evil shadow spreads even wider. Men, Dwarves, Elves, and Ents unite forces to battle against the Dark. Meanwhile, Frodo and Sam struggle further into Mordor in their heroic quest to destroy the One Ring. The devastating conclusion of J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of adventure, begun in The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 07-03-22
As a true LotR nerd (I have read the books at least 30 times), all I can say is thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Andy Serkis and the producers for this fabulous presentation... including the appendices! OMG! By nerds for nerds. The voices that Serkis does! He sings the songs! Okay, he's not exactly gifted with the sweet tones of the Valar, but hey, neither am I. Anyway, I would call this a tour de force. Worth every cent.

Historia
Martyrs to hypochondria and general seediness, J. and his friends George and Harris decide that a jaunt up the Thames would suit them just fine. But when they set off, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather forecasts, and tins of pineapple chunks---not to mention the devastation left in the wake of J.'s small fox-terrier Montmorency.

Hilarious, Fun
- De andrew en 07-14-12
What a gem! Laugh out loud funny.
Revisado: 01-07-21
This has got to be one of the funniest books ever written. Seriously. It's classic British style humor, arch, witty, hilariously verbose, with a suitable levening of madcap slapstick. It is very much like the voyage up the Thames upon which it reports: leisurely, discursive, relaxing, escapist, and fundamentally good natured. Ten thumbs up. It took me a bit to warm to the narrator (I had begun reading the book before I downloaded the audio and had imagined a different voice), but he won me over fairly quickly. I was sorry when it was over.
