Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

When a Book Makes You Question Your Life Choices
Revisado: 03-05-25
I absolutely hate to DNF a book, but here we are. I’ve been struggling with this one since January, listening on Audible, hoping it would eventually get better. Spoiler: it didn’t. I don’t know what was worse; the painfully slow storyline, the overwhelming swarm of side characters, or the heroine herself, Penelope/Poppy. I made it to Chapter 14, but after she was caned by the Duke and still managed to lie to her guard, I. WAS. DONE.
Seriously, Poppy will defend everyone else but can’t stand up for herself? Make it make sense! And I have questions. 1. Why was she even living with those horrible people? 2. Why wasn’t she in the capital with her brother? These are not minor plot holes; they’re gaping chasms that made it impossible to care about anything that happened. Also, if I had to hear the word Maiden one more time, I was about to throw my headphones across the room. What did that even mean, anyway?
I really tried to stick it out just to see more of Hawk, but not even he could save this mess. This was my first book by this author, and honestly, it might be my last. I wanted to love this, but I’m just disappointed. If you’re thinking about picking this one up, do yourself a favor and don’t. Your time is better spent literally anywhere else.

A Haunting Tale with Unsteady Execution
Revisado: 02-12-25
This book had an intriguing premise, but the execution left me torn. The setting had a gothic, historical feel, but the time period was vague, making it hard to get fully immersed. More details about the era would have strengthened the atmosphere.
Ophelia, the protagonist, was reckless and inconsistent. She willingly entered a deadly game yet lacked any self-preservation instincts. Her choices often contradicted her own judgment, making her feel frustratingly erratic. A clearer motivation for her decisions would have made her more relatable.
The 𝕊𝕙𝕒𝕕𝕠𝕨 𝕍𝕠𝕚𝕔𝕖 was one of the most challenging aspects of the story. While it was meant to add psychological depth, it became repetitive and distracting. If it had been used more sparingly, it could have had a stronger impact rather than feeling like a chaotic presence in Ophelia’s head.
Blackwell, the phantom figure, was the true highlight. His desperation to escape Phantasma made him compelling and mysterious. His character could have been explored even further, as he was by far the most interesting part of the story.
The pacing was inconsistent—some moments dragged, while others felt rushed. A tighter narrative structure would have improved the overall reading experience. Despite these flaws, the eerie setting and haunted themes kept me engaged. If you enjoy psychological mysteries with gothic elements, this book might still be worth a read.

What the Hell Just Happened? A Thrilling Twist That Left Me Gutted!
Revisado: 01-28-25
The latest installment in the 𝑬𝒎𝒑𝒚𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒏 series left me speechless. Though it was not the strongest in the series (to me), it still gripped me from beginning to end. The pacing was uneven; some parts felt slow, while others had me replaying moments to catch every detail. I listened to chapters 65 and 66 twice to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Ridoc was the true highlight of this book (for me).
While the slower sections felt like filler, the tension, betrayals, and unexpected revelations made up for it. The finale in particular had me shouting, 𝑫𝒊𝒅 𝑰 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈?! If you have been following this series, this entry is worth savoring. Despite my efforts to drag it out, I devoured it.
The pre-ordered sprayed edges edition is stunning and worth every penny for collectors. While it was not perfect, it leaves me eagerly counting the days until the next book.
4.5/5 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒔

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

I can't believe I have to wait for book three!
Revisado: 10-17-24
Oh my goodness, this book completely lived up to the intensity of Fourth Wing! Violet continues to prove she is in a class of her own, despite her frail body—damn it! This FMC is a total boss. Though she’s sharp, it takes her a bit to piece everything together, but when she does, watch out!
At 28 hours and 17 minutes, this book was longer than Fourth Wing, but every second was worth it. I was so absorbed, I almost cried at work during a heart-wrenching part, and I literally yelled, "No, No, No!" when I hit that unexpected cliffhanger. Ugh, I hate cliffhangers! That cliffhanger wasn’t just a surprise—it shattered me, and now the wait for Onyx Storm feels unbearable. Luckily, January is right around the corner, and I’ve already pre-ordered the next book.
I can’t wait to see what happens next with Violet, Xander, Tarrin, Andarna, Rhi, Ridoc, Sawyer, and the rest of the amazing supporting characters. This book delivers on emotion, twists, and a cliffhanger that will leave you reeling!

Historia
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

Interesting story
Revisado: 04-12-20
I liked both stories and the narrator was good as far as reading for the female characters; but I have yet to find a narrator who can read both female and male characters that made the story engaging for me.
The first story with is its twist on Beauty and the Beast was a very good story and the second twist on Cinderella wasn’t my cup of tea, I really don’t like mixed shifter stories. All the same the story was a good one, my personal taste aside.

I enjoyed the male narrator voice more than than the female narrator when it came down to Quinn and his family. The female narrator sounded more Swedish. Overall this story rocked!

Historia
Nikki Graham's loner trait was not because she had social anxieties, but because the things she saw as a child made her fearful of relationships. Logan Sloan grew up in a loving home with hardworking parents who owned a successful restaurant. That led him to want to become a chef and own a restaurant one day. To complete his dream, it meant he had to give up a chunk of his private life to manage his restaurant. That was until the day his computer died, and he texted a message to the wrong number.

Throughout my life, all that's ever mattered to me has been the win and the thrill of the game. But then I meet Roxie, and everything changes. She's the girl no one sees, completely opposite from the world I live in and the life I lead, but I don't care. She makes me better. She makes me see things in ways I never have before, and I think I do that for her, too. The problem is the complications in my life may see fit to end us, test her in ways I'm sure she's never been tested.
