Historia
The beautiful young woman is perfectly still, curled up in the trunk of the car, her long dark hair hiding her face. Her cotton blouse has ridden up a little, revealing two small dots an inch apart on her back. Just like the others. Guilt has kept FBI Agent Tori Hunter away from her home in Manchester Bay, Minnesota for 20 years, ever since her twin sister disappeared on the Fourth of July, when the girls should have been together. But when she receives an anonymous newspaper clipping about another missing girl, Genevieve, Tori is dragged back to the past.

there is a good story in here somewhere
Revisado: 11-13-21
I don't think that there are any spoilers here just some issues with character development/non-development. So, maybe a lot of people really liked this. However, given the premise that our heroine is a top FBI agent who can call her own shots and pick and choose whether her boss likes it or not she is incredibly incompetent. As ALL the small town cops and prosecutors keep pointing out. Our hero is supposed to have worked a terrorism task force yet knows absolutely nothing about explosives, not even if they are traceable. The way the heroine acts and the way she is treated is sexist trope. Tired. Which is too bad, because there is some decent writing and plot here. I'd suggest that the author review telling us how smart and awesome people are and them having them act incompetent and allow others to treat them like incompetent nincompoops.

Historia
This hilarious, heartfelt, and soaring adventure will delight fans of The Goonies and Indiana Jones. Performed as a 1930s radio drama, it’s bursting with humor for all ages, orchestral scoring, and some of the most talented voices on Broadway. When their ace pilot parents (and adorable puppy) mysteriously disappear over the Pacific, the Flamingo Sisters - Flo, Faye, and Franny - escape the clutches of their evil Uncle Freidrich (who believes girls should never pilot aeroplanes) and join a flying circus.

A fun listen
Revisado: 05-23-20
As an adult I listen to a lot of kid/teen fiction. I teach school and work with kids AND I just like it. This story didn't disappoint. It was not a great mystery as to how things would work out, but it was a fun trip. The Flamingo Sisters were fun to take a journey with.
I enjoyed the obvious villain and how he was thwarted by our young heroines. The book has a nice fantasy aspect that fringes on reality which makes it fun. It is silly and ridiculous. If you require serious reading this isn't for you or your kids.
I would recommend this as a nice lighthearted listen.

I hate this narrator
Revisado: 03-23-20
I have been reading this series for decades. I love the books. I would love to "read" them on audio but this narrator makes me cringe. Eve sounds so stupid. I have no idea why she doesn't sound as stupid when I read it but the voices! Why does Trina sound like Fran Drescher's grandmother? Seriously.
The book is straight up Eve Dallas otherwise. If you liked the others you will like this one. It's a bit of fun. The sex scenes are trite but obviously Robb has an editor who requires them. One longer and more involved with in the first third of the book and then a second shorter one.
If these books had a different narrator perhaps I would purchase more of them.
If you can get past the cheesy narration the story is a good get away from it all.

Historia
It’s rumoured that Dickens wanted to return to his classic novel Oliver Twist, to bring him back into a later book as an older character, but he never managed this before he died. However, if Oliver had returned, what would he have been like? Would the scars of his childhood affect the man he would become? And what of ‘Dodger’, sent to a land halfway around the world, his friend, mentor and master dead because of Oliver? Dodge & Twist is that story. The tale of two boys, 12 years later, returning into each other’s lives - for both good and bad.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 07-06-19
This was a great listen. It kept moving, didn't get bogged down in too much explanation. Not being a huge fan of Dickens (why use one word when I can get paid for 35) I was wary of choosing this title. I was pleased. the characters were there, there was consistency. I recommend it.

Great Manifesto
Revisado: 07-06-19
As a manifesto regarding misogyny and prejudice against LGBTQ this is actually great. French nails beautifully white male privilege. However, this alone does not make compelling reading. The story takes way too long to get to an actual story. The set up is paced so slowly that it was painful.
I like French's work. I will continue reading. I love her points about privilege, but keep the plot moving and don't get bogged down.
I highly recommend her other books. This one takes a bit of time. If you enjoy minutiae it might be for you.

Just didn't capture the imagination
Revisado: 07-05-19
I tried to listen to the whole thing. I just couldn't. It was tedious and, while I read a lot of unrealistic fiction this just didn't work. Maybe more editing? I would love to pinpoint exactly where it became tedious. Perhaps the money? Perhaps adding in the characters all the time? I listened to quite a bit and don't believe that I ever got to the crime portion. Well, I don't want to spoil it, maybe I did depending upon how that's being defined.
I can't finish it. I wouldn't recommend it. The narrator was good.

Brutal Ending
Revisado: 05-25-18
Like many, love the character, love the series, found the ending unsatisfying. I yelled and frightened my husband, child, and two cats. Totally freaked out everyone in the house. So, I had (erroneously) assumed that we were at the conclusion of the series and we are not. I am waiting for the next and hope that we get closer to a conclusion. Sigh. But I did enjoy it.
Another review mentioned the "unrealistic" situations. Yes. The book however is true to its own internal logic. Just as The Wizard of Oz has its own world and Charlie's Angels live in Angel World, Jane Hawk has her own world as well. I enjoy it as long as Koontz doesn't contradict himself (too much. I am certain that there is someone who will find an anomaly...thank you for correcting me as you are desperate to do.)
Read the series. Starting at the beginning is important in this one.

Long time favorite
Revisado: 01-14-15
I really enjoy a good mystery that doesn't take itself too seriously. The Heyer mysteries do not take themselves seriously. If you are looking for a deeply fulfilling artistic experience this book (none of Heyer's books) is not for you.
Heyer is clever at character development and dialogue. Despite their eccentricities the characters are generally fun and likeable. There is always someone to dislike and wonder why anyone would have him/her to a house party.
This is an "English Country House" mystery. It's a formula. However, given some nice plots and character development it's fun and enjoyable.
I must agree that the narrator was a bit spotty. Some of the voices that she chooses are just grating and her timing is off. However, not as bad as some books, so I'll keep listening. I read these books as a girl (my introduction to adult mysteries along with Agatha Christie) and plan to listen to them all again.

Liked it but there were some huge flaws
Revisado: 11-21-14
This was pretty interesting. I suspect that if you read many mysteries or thrillers it might not surprise you so much at the end.
The character development was fine. I just didn't like the character of the narrator (not the actual audio book narrator's voice). The husband. He was a bit of a jerk.
One of the biggest flaws were subplots that added nothing to the story. Oh well.
Overall not a bad read (listen?) It bogged down in a few places, but for the most part kept my attention.
