Historia
On the morning of July 18, 2014, 41-year-old Florida State law professor Dan Markel dropped his boys off at preschool, hit the gym, and headed home to his quiet, tree-canopied neighborhood. Within seconds of pulling into his garage, two .38-caliber bullets fired from point-blank range were lodged in his brain. His brutal slaying defied explanation.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

This was a very good story and the reading aloud was okay. It didn’t feel like the voice of the marsh. Still, overall good!

The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the state's most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance.

Historia
Bill Buckley has created a handsome American hero, Blackford Oakes, who, by coincidence or not, happens to be an irreverent Yale- and CIA-trained superspy. The year is 1954. Stalin has died in Moscow, and a deadly earnest power play nears its conclusion. Meanwhile British and American commandos, their mission to liberate a Soviet satellite country, have met a disastrous end. Jinxed. The communications system between English and American intelligence has been penetrated. Jinxed. There is a spook in their midst. High Jinx.

Historia
A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and humorous account of temptation - and triumph over it - ever written.

Historia
In C. S. Lewis and the Catholic Church, Joseph Pearce delves into Lewis's life, writings, and spiritual influences to shed light on the matter. Although C. S. Lewis's conversion to Christianity was greatly influenced by J. R. R. Tolkien, a Catholic, and although Lewis embraced many distinctively Catholic teachings, such as purgatory and the sacrament of Confession, he never formally entered the Church.

The Song of the Strange Ascetic
Revisado: 02-18-18
Would you consider the audio edition of C.S. Lewis and the Catholic Church to be better than the print version?
About the same.
What was one of the most memorable moments of C.S. Lewis and the Catholic Church?
It is hard to choose, but I enjoyed the narration and discussion surrounding Lewis’s relationship with the Catholic poet Roy Campbell.
Which character – as performed by Kevin F. Spalding – was your favorite?
They were all non-fiction characters, but since the book focused on the life of C.S. Lewis, then...Lewis.
Any additional comments?
If I might invoke the spirit of William Carlos Williams here, “this is just to say” that I enjoyed this book. It is well-written, and Joseph Pearce illuminated me on a few aspects of Lewis’s life that I did not know.
I have often wondered if Lewis was considering membership in the Roman Catholic Church during the early years of his conversation, and then changed his mind. That might account for something of the ‘cooling off’ period that Lewis seems to have experienced in his friendship with Tolkien (at least for some time anyway).
I appreciate Pearce's clarification on G.K. Chesterton's ideas of 'distributionism' and how it differs from the view of many Christians who bow before the altar of the welfare state in the US and the UK. I remember someone in an online forum saying that Chesterton’s 'distributionist' philosophies were a Catholic-like theory in the same vein of the modern socialist dogmas of Bernie Sanders and his ilk.

Well Read, Ralph Cosham
Revisado: 08-15-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
It is a powerful story with compelling characters. Once you get past it being "an animal story," it all seems so very natural.
What did you like best about this story?
The good catastrophe, sort of like what you get in Lord of the Rings, is all in this story. It is well done. The use of language is so original: "sad like leaves in November," and so forth.
Which scene was your favorite?
There are so many scenes in this novel that it is hard to choose. Maybe when Lucy realizes that Hazel needs to be freed and takes him near to Watership Down with Dr. Adams in a car. Then again, it is hard to choose.
If you could rename Watership Down, what would you call it?
Keep the name as it is. The novel is about home.

The narrator did a good job, especially with all the characters. Also, the book reads like the work of a true human being, not a public official.

The Lexicographer's Delight!
Revisado: 07-13-17
Would you listen to The Meaning of Everything again? Why?
I would listen/read Simon Winchester's book again because it is an excellent bit of storytelling about the life of our greatest Dictionary. I also teach a Media Comm class at the college-level, and I think every journalist-to-be should try to be something of a lexicographer. I want more journalists to take words, the 'daughters of the earth,' more seriously. Also, as Winchester's book illustrates, truth is out there: you just have to work very hard and sedulously to get it.
What did you like best about this story?
The amusing episodes about Frederick Furnivall, the ironies of his life, and the people he associated with, etc.
Which character – as performed by Simon Winchester – was your favorite?
The collective voice of the OED.
If you could give The Meaning of Everything a new subtitle, what would it be?
I like it's current subtitle well enough.
