Good but short
Revisado: 06-20-23
They keep bulking out the run time with podcasts. The last two hours are them talking. If the title says it's 11 hours long, it should be 11 hours of story, not 9 hours story and 2 hours of podcast. I was disappointed they chose the route of splitting the final book into two. They have been indie up till now. Splitting the finale into two short books and making up time with bloat instead of releasing one solid book isn't cool.

Historia
Rigel is a thousand lightyears farther from the Core Worlds than Earth, so they suffer the first attacks. The mood at Central is jubilant. Our greatest rival is falling—now is the time to strike while they’re weak! Legion Varus is deployed to Jungle World, a vital planet deep in Rigellian territory. Our foes, fighting on two fronts, are driven back with ease. But one man questions the wisdom of this move. Should Earth expand with greed, aiding new monsters from the Galactic Rim? That lone voice of reason comes from James McGill.

BV is in fine form. This book is a strong entry for the series. A new alien enemy, intrigue at Central and plenty of laughs with McGill, Harris, Leeson and Graves.

Another great adventure in The Land
Revisado: 08-04-21
I held off getting because of negative reviews complaining that it was stat heavy and didn't progress the main story.
Gotta agree it is stat heavy in the first half, but its not all that happens and it's only half the book. There are always stats in these books, there is just a little more.
Gotta disagree that it doesn't progress the main story. The adventures of Rictor are the main story, and he is front and centre throughout.

Snore
Revisado: 11-26-09
I just couldn't get into it, I'm not sure if it was the narrator or the story, or both. The narrator has a very proper british accent, and makes all the men sound like pompous buffoons, and the women sound like mrs marple. The writing style wasn't to my taste and when the concept crashed headlong into my plausibility filter I had to switch off.

Historia
A summer at his grandparents' South Dakota ranch is not 11-year-old Cooper Sullivan's idea of a good time. But things are a bit more bearable now that he's discovered the neighbor girl, Lil Chance, and her homemade batting cage. Even horseback riding isn't as awful as Coop thought it would be. Each year, with Coop's annual summer visit, their friendship deepens from innocent games to stolen kisses, but there is one shared experience that will forever haunt them: the terrifying discovery of a hiker's body.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 11-26-09
Well read, and engaging. I just wasn't expecting a romance novel. Once hearts started throbbing and the sex scenes started I realised. I wouldn't have bought this book had I known it was a romance novel, but I listened through the whole thing. It has elements of thriller, but that is really a side show to the love stories.
If you want a love story with steamy sex scenes, this is the story for you.

Historia
India, 1803. It is four years since Richard Sharpe earned his sergeant's stripes at the siege of Seringapatam, and four years in which Sharpe seems to have discovered the easiest billet in the British army. But that comfort is rudely shattered when he witnesses a murderous act of treachery by an English officer who has defected from the East India Company to join the mercenary army of the Mahratta Confederation commanded by the flamboyant Hanoverian, Anthony Pohlmann.

Awful narration
Revisado: 10-12-09
I can't comment on the story, I made it in 10 minutes before I had to turn it off. The narration is just horrible. The narrator sounds bored and half asleep, drawing out the last word of every sentence, and whispering half of it. He reads the book like a fireside horror story, and the tone he sets is incredibly out of place.
I just couldn't listen to it.
I'm only giving it two stars because I've enjoyed the other Sharpe books, and assume the story of this second one is as good as them.

Good Fun
Revisado: 10-10-09
This series was reccommended to me by a friend, so this is the first Sharpe story I have read.
I really enjoyed it, the story is good action fun from page one, and is populated with great characters. It reminds me a lot of the Hornblower series, and is set in the same historical period, but the story takes place in India in the british army.
I'm looking forward to working my way through the series.

Makes you think
Revisado: 07-12-09
Well written and well read. The story meanders a little and isn't a simple story arc. I found it a little hard to figure out who the main character was, and who I was supposed to identify with, but I'd listen to this one a couple times, so I think it is worhty of full marks.
