Historia
In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. As Lara recalls the past, her daughters examine their own lives and relationship with their mother, and are forced to reconsider the world and everything they thought they knew.

Mesmerizing story and performance
Revisado: 09-09-23
Meryl Streep could read from an engineering manual and make it magical. With “Tom Lake”, she had a mesmerizing story to perform, which she did. Not read, not narrate…perform. It is the story of a woman—a mother and wife—sharing a past that tells of choices as people come together for one summer and shape their individual futures.

So much more than what you might expect!
Revisado: 08-23-23
I thought “The Dead Romantics” would be another sweet rom-com. It is, but it’s also a tender tale of love and loss and finding new ways to love your life. Ashley Poston’s writing is exquisite and the narration was superb! Although I usually prefer to read rather than listen, I’m so glad I chose this book in the audio format. But now I’m buying a copy of the printed book to keep among my must-haves.

Historia
Sink or swim. Or at least that's what Annette Feldman tells herself when she books a cruise for her entire family. It's been over a decade since the Feldman clan has spent more than twenty-four hours under the same roof, but Annette is determined to celebrate her 70th birthday the right way. Just this once, they are going to behave like an actual family. Too bad her kids didn't get the memo.

Excellent narration for a dysfunctional family story
Revisado: 08-09-23
Every family has secrets from one another. The Feldmans are no exception, although they take it to a higher level. When three generations take a cruise together, they’re trapped by the high seas and, one by one, the secrets emerge.
I’m so glad I chose to listen to rather than read this book. The narrator was outstanding, doing such unique voices and with just the right emotion. It was a performance, more than a narration.

Another great performance!
Revisado: 07-19-23
I enjoy Sara Driscoll’s books but Susan Bennett’ a narration is what brings it home! She is skilled at performing suspense that makes your heart beat faster. As for the story, it was very slow starting. The build-up of the conflict diamonds and inside man could have been shorter. The last third of the book was exciting though!

Slow but good
Revisado: 07-14-23
I enjoyed “The Book Charmer” and was excited for the sequel. I started the printed book but decided it was too slow so I decided to listen to it. The pace, of course, was still very slow. Very, very slow. The biggest obstacle for me was the narrator who did Kristen’s voice. While she was fine with dialogue, she read the rest like a shopping list. There’s another sequel coming this fall. I hope Karen Hawkins picks up the pace in the next Dove Pond installment.

Revisado: 06-24-23
This is my first Frieda McFadden experience. I’m still cringing an hour after I finished listening! Great twists all the way to the end. My only issue was that the female narrator couldn’t do male voices. She whispered instead.

This was a tough book for audio because it was very confusing to keep track of who was who among the Asian characters. Still, Tom Taylorson was masterful at narrating it!

Great detective series continues!
Revisado: 05-02-23
Archer Mayor is skilled at blending a compelling story with vibrant characters, all the result of his writing skill. This story presented the emotional journey of both the victim and the man who loves her. Sensitive and real, it was powerful from start to finish. The narrator is also superb! His delivery and character voices added to the joy of listening to a well-spun mystery.
I lived in Vermont when Mayor was writing there but only recently discovered his books. “Better late than never” was never more true.

Good story and narration but writing needs work
Revisado: 03-14-23
By the time the author wrote that a character tucked a stray strand of hair behind an ear for the FIFTH time, I was annoyed. There are just a lot of details, dialogue, and character flaws that prevent me from wanting to read the next book in this series.

Good thriller with excellent narrators!
Revisado: 03-07-23
I admit I thought this was a cozy mystery so it sat in my library a long time. I’m so glad I took the time to listen. Ignore the silliness of naming a hard-edged, female Chicago detective “Jack Daniels” (short for “Jackie”) and the cocktail-themed title. This book was exciting and edgy, and the masterful narration was outstanding!
