Historia
Everyone in Painters Mill knows the abandoned Hochstetler farm is haunted. But only a handful of the residents remember the terrible secrets lost in the muted/hushed whispers of time - and now death is stalking them, seemingly from the grave. On a late-night shift, Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is called to the scene of an apparent suicide - an old man found hanging from the rafters in his dilapidated barn.

I love all the Kate Birkenholder mysteries as well as the narrators voice. I’ll be sad when I’ve “read” therm all !

Historia
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It's seared into Atlee Pine's memory: the kidnapper's chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared. She never saw Mercy again. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate.

Suspense but not terror. I didn’t guess anything. Will read more about main character. Highly recommend.

Historia
I met Jamie Fraser when I was 19 years old. He was tall, redheaded, and, at our first meeting at least, a virgin. I fell in love hard, fast, and completely. He knew how to ride a horse, wield a sword, and stitch a wound. He was, in fact, the perfect man. That he was fictional hardly entered into it.

Soso

I loved all of the Outlander books and thought this off shoot might be fun. It was mostly silly I thought and the narrators voice too shrill.

Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything.

Sweet and tortured
Revisado: 05-16-21
As usual, Backman makes me laugh through my tears. Not my all time favorite of his but he really pulls it together at the end.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

A Deliciously Satisfying Read
Revisado: 11-14-17
Lisa See's latest is a great listen. The story brings us into the modern day tea industry through the life story of a young woman who was abandoned in China as a baby and adopted into an American family. There is great sensitivity to the complexities of inter-racial adoption. There is great historical and cultural background into tea, the growing and rituals of tea and the tea industry. There is great insight into the evolution of a rural village coming of age in the twentieth century. The narration was perfect! I have already recommend this book to many of my friends and I highly recommend it to you too!. AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY

Historia
In this highly anticipated new novel, Diana Gabaldon brings back one of her most compelling characters: the unforgettable Lord John Grey - soldier, gentleman, and no mean hand with a blade. Set in the heart of the 18th century, Lord John's world is one of mystery and menace. Diana Gabaldon brilliantly weaves together the strands of Lord John's secret and public lives.

Stick with it!
Revisado: 01-14-16
This is a slow starter. It took me two tries to get going with it but it was very worthwhile. The deeper you get into it the more invested you get in the characters who develop in very intriguing ways. The plot switches back and forth and in between times weaving a marvelous tapestry of the complexity of time. The ending is a magnificent surprise which I will not reveal! I recommend it to readers with an interest in WWII and who love well developed characters, literary references and surprising authorial craft.
