Historia
Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she’s not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, two of the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture - by any means necessary.

Historia
Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Scalzi never lets me down
Revisado: 10-19-24
Scalzi breaks so many "good writing rules" and somehow manages to keep me engaged, caring about the characters, and excited to hear what happens next. This is just a short story, but a fun one. It was satisfying but left me wanting more books in this world. The world building was so good. If you are a Scalzi fan, calibrate your expectations to the fact that this is just an Amazon exclusive short story, and then enjoy it for what it is - a different type of hero in a really fun listen.

Fantastic bedtime story reading with a surprisingly interesting conclusion
Revisado: 01-30-24
Tony's reading makes this a great bedtime or calming background story. To my surprise, I got sucked into the story. It is an interesting correction to attributing the invention of mathematical ideas to the earliest possible detection of anything to do with that bit of mathematics, as opposed to the earliest careful development of the topic.

Finally a dramatized performance done well!
Revisado: 05-06-23
Finally a team has figured out how to do a dramatized performance of an audiobook. The music isn't overpowering and the sound effects aren't distracting. Both are used sparingly. The acting is a bit overtop, but it works with this book. I hope this becomes a series and that other creators learn from this production.

Revisado: 02-18-23
I almost didn't listen to this because the average review was around four stars at the time. I'm really glad I gave it a chance because it was surprisingly fun. I got really engrossed in the dystopian world created, which is extra impressive for a short story.

I'm so happy Scalzi wrote another sequel to The Dispatcher. It's such a unique word and creates a fun twist for crime dramas. I really enjoyed this, and I'm hoping for a fourth installment with Quinto continuing his fabulous reading.

Great story, poor editing of audio
Revisado: 06-28-21
James Marsters was fantastic as always, but there were several moments where someone else was clearly edited in to clean up a section. It completely took me out of the story. Please hire Marsters for post production corrections next time.
