Olivia: I was the new kid, in a small town, who didn't fit in when I met Mason Bridgewater. He was big, bossy, and almost knocked me out cold when we first met. Our friendship grew, and a love grew greater out of that, but now I've ruined it. Mason: I was the golden boy, from a small town, whose entire world was rocked when I met Olivia Robertson. She talked differently, she acted differently, and I knew pretty quickly that I'd never meet a girl like her again. Our friendship was unbreakable, our attraction undeniable, and our love unforgettable...or so I thought.

Stuck in the Past
Revisado: 10-21-24
I've been enjoying this series so far because it's been scratching an itch for me and actually getting me out of my reading rut. That being said, as much as I loved this story, it wasn't quite the right fit for me. It has all the hallmarks of the other books--quick and dirty with MCs that have big personalities and great chemistry--but the story wasn't quite the same as the other ones. This is a second chance romance, which I'm usually iffy on to begin with (I like angst, but not *that* kind of angst). My biggest problem was that 85% of this book is about their initial relationship (from when they were kids, then in high school, then in college). I kept waiting for it to skip back and forth between timelines, but it never did, which means most of the story was leading up to a heartbreak you already knew was coming (so it was a little hard to enjoy). I've been enjoying the fact that these books are quick to speed through, but this is one that would've been better served with a little more plot. The tension of them working together in the present day would've been more delicious without knowing what happened to force them apart years prior, especially as they fight against their feelings because their hearts are broken. The final scenes were satisfying, and I still enjoyed these characters and their story, but it was a little bit more of a chore to get through. Hoping the next book is a little bit more in line with the previous books in the series.

How many ways do I need to say I quit? My family thinks I'm crazy, my astrology chart says it's a mistake, but after three years of carefully molding the highly narcissistic Cooper Barnes into the "athlete influencer" of the year - I quit. He won't care anyway. Whether they work for him or sleep with him, women have always been expendable to the billionaire baller. Even me.

Sweet Story, Terrific Twists
Revisado: 10-21-24
I enjoyed the first book in this series enough to want to keep reading, and WOLF did not disappoint. I think I liked this one even better than the first, though they each have their merits. I've noticed that Lisa Lang Blakeney writes a little bit on the slow-burn side, but since these books are so short, I don't even notice. (I don't mind a slow-burn, but usually I'm ready to jump into the spice and watch it ramp up along the way). The dynamic between the two MCs was a lot of fun, but the several twists in this story is what really elevated it. I'm not sure if I've just gotten used to the narrators or they did actually improve from the last one. Hayden Bishop has a beautiful, raspy voice and brings a lot of personality to the female characters, though a few of her choices sometimes take me out of the moment. Jeremy York is more consistent, but he doesn't bring the characters alive like his co-narrator. Still, they're above average in terms of narration, and the story was enjoyable, both in terms of the actual plot and the spiciness of the bedroom scenes. Very excited to keep reading.

I hate sports, and he is football royalty. I like quiet and predictable, but he's sex and swagger personified. I didn't particularly care for Saint Stevenson the first moment I laid eyes on him, but his warped brain seemed to process our initial meeting as foreplay. I have a meticulous five-year plan in place for myself and my career, but now this huge, cocky, self-absorbed quarterback who I've been assigned to at work is seriously f--king it up.

Quick and Dirty Sports Romance
Revisado: 10-21-24
I've been in a bit of a reading rut these last few weeks, unable to get past the 75% mark in a lot of books (even the ones I enjoy). I've been craving a football romance now that the season is in full swing, and this Nighthawk series did not disappoint. I like that the books are fairly short and well-written, with good character development and some super steamy scenes. The plot and tension between the MCs kept me interested, and my complaints are superficial at most. The two narrators are definitely above average in terms of quality, but there were a few choices that made me raise an eyebrow. The thing I found most confusing was the back-and-forth dialogue without action tags, as it had me a little lost at times. Other than that, I truly enjoyed this book and the few surprises it tossed in my direction. If you're looking for something quick and dirty, this is a good place to start. Can't wait to read the next one.

Historia
The first book in the scorching new Hot Jocks series by New York Times best-selling author Kendall Ryan - available in audio first! I've never been so stupid in my entire life. Elise Parrish, my teammate's incredibly sweet and gorgeous younger sister, should have been off-limits, but my hockey stick didn't get the memo. After our team won the championship, our flirting turned physical, and I took her to bed. Then shame sent her running the next morning from our catastrophic mistake.

This was a quick little story that was super steamy and sweet. It had just the right amount of push and pull to keep me hooked. I just found a brand new author to read, and I can’t wait for the next I. The series!

Struck by Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal follows the story of outcast high school senior Carson Phillips who blackmails the most popular students in his school into contributing to his literary journal to bolster his college application; his goal in life is to get into Northwestern and eventually become the editor of The New Yorker. At once laugh-out-loud funny, deliciously dark, and remarkably smart, Struck By Lightning unearths the dirt that lies just below the surface of high school.

Excellent
Revisado: 04-02-15
Quite different from Colfer's subsequent books, but excellent nonetheless. The tone was fantastic, and Colfer's narration is always on point. I saw the movie before I read the book, and it's clear just how well-adapted the film was. The characters jump off the page, and it's not hard to find something you like about each one of them.
