Historia
But now Lillian herself is dead. Found among the bleeding hearts and lilacs of Clara Morrow's garden in Three Pines, shattering the celebrations of Clara's solo show at the famed Musée in Montreal. Chief Inspector Gamache, the head of homicide at the Sûreté du Québec, is called to the tiny Quebec village and there he finds the art world gathered, and with it a world of shading and nuance, a world of shadow and light. Where nothing is as it seems. Behind every smile there lurks a sneer. Inside every sweet relationship there hides a broken heart.

Long wait for the big reveal
Revisado: 04-17-25
Interesting that she worked in the tragedy of a previous untold story into some of the narrative of this story. It was a teaser and I guess I would have enjoyed the full story if the tragedy had been in its own book or at least a chapter on its own merit. Full details and a play by play, rather than the sketchy details provided I no this book.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is on break from duty in Three Pines to attend the famed Winter Carnival up north. He has arrived in this beautiful, freezing city not to join the revels but to recover from an investigation gone hauntingly wrong. Still, violent death is inescapable—even here, in the apparent sanctuary of the Literary and Historical Society, where one obsessive academic’s quest for answers will lead Gamache down a dark path.

Historia
It is the height of summer, and Armand and Reine-Marie Gamache are celebrating their wedding anniversary at Manoir Bellechasse, an isolated, luxurious inn not far from the village of Three Pines. But they're not alone. The Finney family - rich, cultured, and respectable - has also arrived for a celebration of their own. The beautiful Manoir Bellechasse might be surrounded by nature, but there is something unnatural looming.

Lots of interesting characters—hard to keep the Morrows distinct from each other
Revisado: 04-01-25
The plot was quite detailed and a bit lengthy, but the ending was certainly exciting—odd processes regarding statue placement were questionable, but the quoted lines of poetry made it the trademark Louise Penney book.

You think color of skin, you think type of hair, you think eye color. All if these characteristics mean nothing until the Negro learned to read, write and advance his perception of what white people value. To be able to get into the thought processes of the field overseer or Judge Thatcher or to identify the pecking order in the field is what enables Jim to stay alive in his run from Hannibal. What kept his spirit from getting worn down was his love for his wife, daughter and Huck. I loved the inserted John Knox arguments with Jim when Jim was between a rock and a hard place, injured, beaten or just trying to outwit those that wanted to capture him—and really! It all started with a few fire logs that went missing to keep his “family” warm that winter.

Winnie and the circle of lives around her
Revisado: 03-07-25
I liked the way the book began and shows that even tho we didn’t know who July was in the beginning he became a wonderful, caring, honest and generous neighbor. I liked Cora for what she wanted out of the unfairmilk producers and how she was able to think about having another child, I liked Maxine. And however you say his name—Grimm—he lent humor to the novel without realizing it. The panther or cougar was an interesting side—not really sure of its purpose except like the injured characters in the story, the cub needed time away to heal.

The narrator’s voice
Revisado: 01-04-25
I loved the premise and clearly it would take a lot of love to birth this book, but Doris’s voice is not an “audible” quality narrator voice. No offense, but that’s my only complaint.

Millions of Amor Towles fans are in for a treat as he shares some of his shorter fiction: six stories based in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood. The New York stories, most of which take place around the year 2000, consider the fateful consequences that can spring from brief encounters and the delicate mechanics of compromise that operate at the heart of modern marriages.

Eve’s voice was perfect for her clever beauty and so was the tired voice of Charlie, the retired homicide detective. However you could tell Charlie seemed 5 years younger as he was planning the “revenge” on Irish former cop who had also stolen $$ from the casino heist.
