Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Raunchy but not in a fun way, sad and unsexy. Trigger warning for those who have suffered infant loss.
Revisado: 09-18-24
I've never read a book that had such gratuitous sex but yet none of it was fun. The author also reads the book herself and she sounds like Sadness from Inside Out, or maybe Eyor, and it makes the story even more of a bummer. The topics it touched on were good -- women and the fear of aging and losing our youth, marriage changing over the years, losing yourself in family and motherhood -- be warned there is a lot of talk of infant death and NICU trauma so if that's you, take caution going in.
I liked parts but had to listen to it sped up so I could get through it. I watched an interview with the author on the Daily Show and I kept thinking that the funny sexy book they were describing was not the one I'd read/listened to.

Historia
From the moment Sunny Nwazue discovered she had mystical energy flowing in her blood, she sought to understand and control her powers. Throughout her adventures, she had to navigate the balance between nearly everything in her life—America and Nigeria, the "normal" world and the one infused with juju, human and spirit, good daughter and powerful Leopard Person. Now, those hard lessons and abilities are put to the test in a quest so dangerous and fantastical, it would be madness to go . . . but may destroy the world if she does not.

Disappointing and I miss the first reader
Revisado: 08-22-22
I am thinking of picking this book up to read to see if it is better that way and more comparable to the first two. I was so looking forward to this release. The reader of this book did such a bad job that I couldn't get through it and a really tried. I finally gave up with a couple hours left in the story.
The reader's pacing and acting is very slow with poor rhythm and makes the book feel very disjointed and boring. Her American accent is terrible too and two of the main characters are American so it makes it feel very strange. I miss the reader of the first two books, she was amazing!

Historia
What would happen if the Earth stopped spinning? Half the world would become trapped in endless night, the other half in relentless day. Global communications would be crippled. The oceans would migrate to the Earth's magnetic poles, and global tremors would threaten the stability of the entire planet. That's what happens in Skybound. Theories about the impossible phenomenon run the gamut from broken physics to little green men to the dawning of the end times. But everyone agrees on one thing: The massive metallic object that suddenly appeared in the sky is to blame.

Good reader, decent story, fun sci-fi, flat ending
Revisado: 01-25-22
The story was exciting enough to keep me listening and interesting enough to get me googling locations and some of the science behind the fiction. The characters were diverse in background and ethnicity which I appreciated. The voice actor was very good and kept me at the edge of my seat on several occassions. Overall, entertaining and worth a listen but I found the ending to be unsatisfying, thus my three star rating instead of four.

Slow start but picked up about half way through.
Revisado: 05-09-19
Fun to spend more time with beloved characters but it really took a while to get into the story and Marcus' past. I found myself struggling to care at all for the first 1/3 of the book about his back story. I wanted more Dianna and Phebe story lines and even those fell a little short. It feels like there are more stories to come though, so that'll be fun.
I want to know more about Freya and Miriam. I'm also assuming Gallowglass will eventually get his own story to overcome his love Dianna, but that isn't touched here either than a mention or two.

Historia
All alone in Singapore, proper Miss Primrose Tunstell must steal helium to save her airship, the Spotted Custard, in a scheme involving a lovesick werecat and a fake fish tail. When she uncovers rumors of a new kind of vampire, Prim and the Custard crew embark on a mission to Peru. There, they encounter airship pirates and strange atmospheric phenomena, and are mistaken for representatives of the Spanish Inquisition. Forced into extreme subterfuge (and some rather ridiculous outfits) Prim must also answer three of life's most challenging questions.

the best of the Custard Protocol books yet.
Revisado: 08-22-18
Stellar narration as always and it was so fun to see the story from Prim and Percy's POV this time around. I like the story better as well. I struggled to get through Prudence. Imprudence was better and more interesting with better flow and story though it dragged a bit by the end. This time around I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing and loved learning more about the side characters and subcultures. Plus I'm always a sucker for the romance and there was plenty to be had this time around on many fronts. Very entertaining and sweet.
