Historia
It’s Valentine’s Day weekend, and Charlotte and Seth are not looking for romance. Armed with emotional-support bear spray, Charlotte is in self-imposed isolation and on guard from men. Having a stalker can do that to a person’s nerves. Just across the hall and giving off woodsy vibes is Seth, a recently divorced arborist. As in today recently. Heights, he’s fine with. Trust? Not so much.

Cute Read!
Revisado: 03-01-25
Great story! I really enjoyed this book but it drove me nuts that she called him by his first and last name EVERY SINGLE TIME she said his name. I’m neurodivergent and this was like, or worse than fingernails down a chalkboard. It made it hard to enjoy the story at times because my brain was trying to figure out how many times she could say Mike Martin in one sentence.

I wasn’t sure how this book would be going into it but I was more than pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It forces you to look at situations from different perspectives.

Historia
Born and raised in Hawai‘i by a father whose ancestors are indigenous to the land and a mother from the American South, Jessica Machado wrestles with what it means to be “local.” Feeling separate from the history and tenets of Hawaiian culture that have been buried under the continental imports of malls and MTV, Jessica often sees her homeland reflected back to her from the tourist perspective—as an uncomplicated paradise. Her existence, however, feels far from that ideal. Balancing her parents’ divorce, an ailing mother, and growing anxiety, Jessica rebels.

Hi'i is proud to be a Naupaka, a family renowned for its contributions to hula and her hometown of Hilo, Hawaii, but there’s a lot she doesn’t understand. She’s never met her legendary grandmother and her mother has never revealed the identity of her father. Four freshmen arrive at college from completely different worlds: Lainey, a California party girl with a flair for drama; Tyson, a brilliant scholar and aspiring lawyer from Washington, D.C.; Summer, an ambitious, recruited athlete from the Midwest; and Hannah, a mild-mannered southerner who is content to quietly round out the circle of big personalities. Not her best work
Revisado: 07-15-24
Maybe I would have liked the book more if the narration wasn’t so AWFUL. I don’t think it’s the actors but the casting or something. It’s hard to keep up with.

This may be the best book I’ve ever read or listened to. As I try to think of how to review this book, I’ll say, I started this listen on a Friday morning…. I stayed late AT WORK to finish it because I couldn’t handle the thought of putting it down, and leave it there!!

He's the last man I should've picked for a one night stand. See that guy over there? The insanely tall, broad-shouldered, dark-haired, scowling, “I don’t drink coffee” suit? Surprise! He’s the new owner of my family’s mountain café.

I wasn’t looking for a James Michener novel, but this book was as deep and interesting as Kim Kardashian. The first book was funny. This one was boring and could have been told in 30 minutes.

Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

The main character continuously playing the victim got old fast. It was hard to feel bad for her. I don’t regret using a credit but wouldn’t listen again.
