This book, and the one before it, are basically a bunch of short stories made to vaguely resemble a book.
This is not my cup of tea, and I don’t believe I will continue the series.

This series started off well, but the last two books I read seem composed of a novella combined with an immense amount of unnecessary fluff. This will be the last one in this series that I will purchase.

The story is an interesting idea, but there are few men in history who deserve redemption less than Columbus. While the story is written such that the beliefs of Columbus are altered so that he chooses a path of benevolence rather than conquest and thievery, it has not been my experience that men like him can be changed; particularly not if they feel “God has chosen…” them to undertake some path.
The path that the story takes is very slow, and it’s easy to loose the story thread if you are distracted by other things.
I had wanted to listen to this book for some time, but I didn’t want to spend one of my credits to get it, so when it popped up for free, I took the opportunity to listen to it. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend that anyone else spend money to get it. Wait until it comes up for free again.

Lumping multiple unrelated things together

My first solid indication that the author is off base was when he described how the Annanaki “blasted holes through the Asteroid Belt”.
The average distance between asteroids in the Belt is 600,000 miles. The odds of hitting something during transit is less than winning the lotto. Three times.

I don’t know where is idea of privately owned clay tablets from Sumer came from, but the story in them was very clearly written by someone familiar with today’s sci-fi and certainly was not written by ancient scribes.

While there are a few nuggets in this book, the author has taken unrelated events and subjects and without any evidence has tied them together, merely because they fit what he wishes had actually happened.

If you want tales that are likely much closer to the truth, read the works of Graham Hancock, and ignore this pretender.

The misuse of “Q Clearance”

A few years ago someone with the pseudonym of “Q” claimed to have access to Too Secret military, CIA , and Homeland Security information because he had “a Q clearance”.
This is how we knew he was a fake. He clearly did not know what a Q Clearance was.
And neither do the authors of this book.
A “Q Clearance” IS NOT the “highest of clearances” and it DOES NOT grant you access to Top Secret military, CIA, or Homeland Security information.

A Q Clearance is a category of clearance issued by the Department of Energy, and it ONLY grants you access to information related to energy.
Some of this can be related to Special Material including information about uranium and plutonium, but only on a need to know basis.
You DO NOT have access to ANY OTHER top secret information.

Throughout this book, the authors continually referenced a Q Clearance as “the highest level of clearance” indicating that they bought the line of horse pucky that the fake Q was dishing out.
A five second internet search could have saved them this embarrassment.

I had a very difficult time connecting with any of the characters. The last two hours was the only part worth listening to, and was when some actual story was encountered.

I read this series in High School, back when telephones all had cords. This is a good book, but is my least favorite in the series. The Illearth War and the Power that Preserves are stronger and better written.
However, if you skip Lord Foul’s Bane you won’t really understand what’s going on in the other two. So you’re stuck with it.
Fear not. It’s still a good book. You’ll probably just like the other two more.

Tired of gangs being portrayed as altruistic?

This started out as a sort about a skinwalker and ended up being about an unrealistic story about a motorcycle gang of highly educated American Indians whose real goal is to give everybody a better life.
I see this theme in the entertainment media a lot: the altruistic criminal gang. They DON’T EXIST. Even gangs that might start with ideas of “protecting their neighborhoods” rapidly become about “control and domination” of their neighborhoods, and then head straight into illegal cash flow and money laundering schemes.
I gave this book the lowest rating by far of any of in the series because of the story line. And since I’ve already purchased the entire series, I sincerely hope this type of story doesn’t become a trend.

I had my doubts that the story could be wrapped up, but I believe the authors did Frank Herbert justice.
I’ve only given five stars to two of the previous books (Dune and Children of Dune) and this one makes three.

I am a straight white male, but I have a number of lesbian friends. Though they try to explain their experiences to me, I don’t think I can completely relate because… well, I’m not female. I picked this book up because I thought it might be a fun way to get a better grasp on how my friends think, and I got more than I expected.
The superhero fight scenes are run of the mill, but there are sections of the book that deal with raw emotions that must be based on real experiences.
It’s well written, and though the narrator had a bit of a rough start, she rapidly settled into a more comfortable read and became an integral part of the enjoyment.
Gave it five stars in all categories , and wish I could give it six.
