Historia
Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Jennette’s story is compelling and tastefully crafted
Revisado: 10-26-22
Swan diving into this book with unknown expectations and quickly learning that Jennettes story was/is compelling and tastefully crafted has, suffice it to say, made me happy. Not happy because of the years of abuse and pain she endured, but happy that she found a way to vocalize that pain through her writing. A feat many dream to endeavor yet few attain. There were many parallels in this story to that of my own life and it made for a deep and captivating look into the lives of those we see on screen (and how tv is not reality). I cannot recommend this book enough. All I can say is you simply MUST listen. Bravo! I cannot wait to buy the next book Jennette!

By combing through the journals that Hannah has kept for much of her life, this collection of narrative essays delivers a fuller picture of her life, her experiences, and the things she's figured out about family, faith, love, sexuality, self-worth, friendship, and fame. Revealing what makes Hannah tick, this sometimes cringeworthy, poignant collection of stories is sure to deliver plenty of Hannah's wit and wisdom - and hopefully encourage you to try your hand at her patented brand of reckless optimism.

Insightful...Thought Provoking..Worth every minute
Revisado: 05-11-18
Some authors have troubles making a connection to their readers, either through the voice infliction of the narrator or from how the words are constructed within the story. But Hannah nailed this on both fronts!
So far this year I have listened to 76 different audible books...this is in my Top 3. Her tactful honesty, jovial mindset, and ability to convey her tale with such a positive flare, is nothing short of whimsical and entertaining!
In short...I loved this book for everything it is...and congratulate her on what it is not...she did all of this without being vulgar or distasteful like other comedians. (IMO) It freed her from the typical stench of desperation some folks resort to in order to tell a story or sell a book. Rather, she accomplished both without the atypical "triggers"
You should buy this book, listen to this book, re-listen to this book...then buy it for your friends as well. You won't regret it! Take it from a bookaholic!

Vampyres don't exist. They absolutely do not exist. At least I didn't think they did 'til I tried to quit smoking and ended up Undead. Who in the hell did I screw over in a former life that my getting healthy equates with dead? Now I'm a Vampyre. Yes, we exist whether we want to or not. However, I have to admit, the perks aren't bad. My girls no longer jiggle, my ass is higher than a kite, and the latest Prada keeps finding its way to my wardrobe.

Delightfully Unexpected
Revisado: 08-04-17
Kevin-
If you're reading this...(and I'm sure you're not) but did not like you prior to hearing this book. I didn't understand the comedy, I didn't "get" the drama between you and Tory, so to someone who really didn't know anything about you hearing the stories of your fighting and the violence made me think that you were not a very nice guy. In other words, the picture of you that was painted in my head of you, wasn't a good one. To be honest, I figured listening to the book would've given me validation that I was correct somehow.
So imagine my surprise when I found myself taking notes of short quips you would say, and even reared up a little when "the checks, all of them fell out of the Bible..." I'm so glad I picked up this book...more importantly I'm so happy I was wrong about what I thought of you. You're story is one that EVERYONE should read, and I identified with it more than I'll ever let on... but I know your momma is incredibly proud of the man and father you've become. This was a phenomenal read, and I for one am great Gil you chose to write it! Five Stars

Historia
If I'm going to tell the story of a life, my life, then I need to tell it warts and all. If the tale is too saccharine sweet then what can the reader take away from it? What do they learn about you? I've written everything down. The shit, the death, fun, naughtiness, addiction, laughter, laughter, laughter, some tears and lots of love and happiness. That, to me, is a better reflection of a human's life.

This was a FANTASTIC book and I loved every single second of it! I can't wait for the next one!!

Historia
The inimitably witty David Rakoff, New York Times best-selling author of Don’t Get Too Comfortable, defends the commonsensical notion that you should always assume the worst, because you’ll never be disappointed. In this deeply funny (and, no kidding, wise and poignant) audiobook, Rakoff examines the realities of our sunny, gosh everyone-can-be-a-star contemporary culture and finds that, pretty much as a universal rule, the best is not yet to come, adversity will triumph, justice will not be served, and your dreams won’t come true.

Meh?
Revisado: 04-16-17
David's writing is not necessarily for everybody. I love the way it was written, and I adore his clever wit and cynicism. I just have a hard time with the monotone narration... and even though the story is exciting… I find myself drowsy during long parts of the book where there is minimal vocal change. He is a brilliant and creative writer nonetheless. Very talented person... I just personally prefer a little more fluctuation in the reading.

Revisado: 04-16-17
I have to say… I was incredibly, and pleasantly surprised with how insightful and well thought out this book was. I have an all new respect for "Alec" Baldwin. I found this book creatively poised amongst one of my favorites for 2017. I have already shared it as a gift to a few of my friends out of state. When I say pleasantly unexpected… It's a kind way of saying THANK YOU to Alec for having taken the time to put your emotions out there publicly and showing the world that you are more than just a pretty face on TV. I applaud the offer for his insightful views on many topics. I've already started listening to this a second time! I recommend this to anybody :-)

Historia
Though they have the vote and the Pill and haven't been burned as witches since 1727, life isn't exactly a stroll down the catwalk for modern women. They are beset by uncertainties and questions: Why are they supposed to get Brazilians? Why do bras hurt? Why the incessant talk about babies? And do men secretly hate them? Caitlin Moran interweaves provocative observations on women's lives with laugh-out-loud funny scenes from her own, from adolescence to her development as a writer, wife, and mother.

Caitlin is brilliant in this read! She manages to etch a notion into your brain, like a well trained engraver placing a sheath of lace onto a pistol handle! She's got a well thought out and descriptive way of bringing you into the storyline, as if you were there with her. Love it! Now, time to go read her newest book How to Build a Girl!
