Missed opportunity for a sw horror story
Revisado: 04-02-25
Great performance but reduced the drengir to childish villains. The author backed themselves into a corner that they couldn’t get out of without extreme plot armor.

Historia
Cal Kestis has built a new life for himself with the crew of the Stinger Mantis. Together, Cal’s crew has brought down bounty hunters, defeated Inquisitors, and even evaded Darth Vader himself. More important, Merrin, Cere, Greez, and faithful droid BD-1 are the closest thing Cal has had to a family since the fall of the Jedi Order. Even as the galaxy’s future grows more uncertain by the day, with each blow struck against the Empire the Mantis crew grows more daring.

Reads like a racy fan fiction, which isn’t all bad
Revisado: 04-01-25
The story is like 10 percent fights. 20% running character thought tangents about sex. 10% characters fantasizing about sex during battles. And 60% merrin hooking up - with like 100 pages of heavy detail - while cal tries to wrap his head around thins new emotion he feels: jealousy.
Having said that, Sam maggs is an excellent writer that describes both scenes and character psychology with equal panache and they put some cool canon cameos (objects from KOTOR) in the mix but at the end of the day this story was unnecessary and imo too sexy for sw. Unless you want to know what happened to greez arm.

Historia
Karr is a teenage boy like many others in the galaxy. He goes to school, helps his parents with the family business, likes speeders and droids. But Karr also has a secret: When he touches certain objects, he gets searing headaches and blacks out. And along with the pain sometimes come visions of people he doesn't know and places he's never been. Karr's parents worry that he's sick; his grandmother is convinced the visions come from the Force. But it's been years since anyone has heard from the last of the Jedi - Luke Skywalker. Are there any Jedi left to guide Karr?

An excellent ode to star wars past
Revisado: 02-07-25
Shinick writes beautifully and thoughtfully, painting a picture of both the post Jedi/post empire galaxy and also telling a wonderful coming of age story where an awkward (otaku) Star Wars Jedi nerd finds his place in an ever expanding galaxy. The cameos are well written and very well thought out, not overwhelming or intrusive, but only used to add to or advance the already blossoming story. I would recommend this book to new and long time fans alike.
The narrator would get five stars except for some clear pronunciation issues that are a pet peeve of mine. Not even in universe words but just English language stuff that should’ve been caught by the director and editor. Otherwise the performance and sound editing are top notch.

Beautiful Star Wars love story
Revisado: 02-03-25
I really like how the writer tells this entire story from two perspectives , alternating between Izzy and Jules while really maintaining the different tones that each character brings to the narrative. The sound engineering is also top notch, with excellent music and sfx that help bring the story to life. Not a must read, as it’s a real standalone story, but definitely worth a listen for the depth it brings to the world of batuu and the resistance era galaxy as a whole.

Historia
The Resistance is in ruins. In the wake of their harrowing escape from Crait, what was once an army has been reduced to a handful of wounded heroes. Finn, Poe, Rey, Rose, Chewbacca, Leia Organa - their names are famous among the oppressed worlds they fight to liberate. But names can only get you so far, and Leia’s last desperate call for aid has gone unanswered. From the jungles of Ryloth to the shipyards of Corellia, the shadow of the First Order looms large, and those with the bravery to face the darkness are scattered and isolated.

The best resistance era story so far
Revisado: 01-21-25
I feel like this story is so much better than the sequel movies and honestly so much more essential to understanding how they get from A to B to C in the storyline. There’s so much essential character development and story telling that helps frame the on and off screen events throughout the galaxy that it honestly should have been “required reading” back in 2018 or whatever. Marc Thompson is fantastic as always, further cementing himself as both the voice of Star Wars and easily my personal favorite audiobook narrator of all time. Highly recommended.

Weaving beautiful threads of story
Revisado: 12-07-24
The author uses a really good intertwining storytelling style where the perspective naturally transitions within the chapters as the characters come into contact with each other or have a shared experience of some sort. It must’ve taken a LOT of careful planning but it was totally worth it for the effect.

Historia
The Jedi are reeling from Qui-Gon Jinn’s sudden death at the hands of a Sith. Jedi Master Mace Windu’s feelings about Qui-Gon have always been complicated, and have not been made any simpler in death. While they often disagreed, Mace valued Qui-Gon’s unique perspective, and their shared dedication to the Force made them allies. Without Qui-Gon and his unorthodox views, Mace feels out of balance. While considering his fallen friend’s legacy, Mace is surprised to receive a final message from Qui-Gon.

It’s been over a year since the fall of the Starlight Beacon space station, and both heroes and villains alike must face the consequences of their decisions. When Jedi Knight Reath and Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo are sent on a mission to test their theories about the Nameless, they’ll come face-to-face with the terrifying creatures once thought to be myth—and learn the true meaning of fear . . . fear that fallen Jedi Azlin Rell advised them to embrace if they have any hope of defeating the monsters.

Drags at first but finishes well
Revisado: 11-01-24
The narration was ok but the pacing of the story must’ve made it incredibly difficult for the narrator to keep it engaging. Too much information was repeated too many times throughout the story, too many descriptions and exposition felt like copy and paste, and overall the story felt 100 pages too long because of it. Having said that, there are key elements to the overall story of the high republic that really can’t be missed and when the novel is at its best it is truly great. I still recommend it, and I hope that the narrator gets more (better) opportunities to demonstrate her skills in the future, but this was the first high republic novel that I struggled to get through. I am still glad I did, because it felt like a turning point for the series and left me feeling very excited for what comes next.
