Historia
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

Great story, well read.

Heartbreaker. Or maybe not, depending on your view of the ending. We'll worth the 'read'.

Historia
From celebrated New York Times best-selling author and winner of the Pulitzer Prize Rick Bragg comes a poignant and wryly funny collection of essays on life in the South. Keenly observed and written with his insightful and deadpan sense of humor, Bragg explores enduring Southern truths about home, place, spirit, table, and the regions' varied geographies, including his native Alabama, Cajun country, and the Gulf Coast.

Good, though perhaps overly sentimental at times
Revisado: 03-09-21
Good, a little overly sentimental at times. Some of strongest pieces are in the last chapter when he writes about southern football and race, and the legacy and love of Alabama football ( and I am not even much of a football, college or pro, fan). When I started the book, I wasn't sure I would finish it, but am glad I did, if simply for the last few stories.

Historia
When Rosamond Halsey Carr first arrived in Africa, she didn't realize that she would spend the rest of her life there. As a young fashion illustrator living in New York City in the 1940s, she seemed the least likely candidate for such a life of adventure. But marriage to a hunter-explorer took her to what was then the Belgian Congo, and divorce left her determined to stay on in neighboring Rwanda as the manager of a flower plantation.

A moving detailed history of Rwanda: 1949-1999
Revisado: 02-22-21
Provides important insight into the history of Rwanda and a larger context for the 1994 genocide. Also includes a full, complex portrait of researcher, Diane Fossey, and a portrait of White colonial and postcolonial experience in Rwanda. I was surprised by the portrayal of Congolese liberation figure, Patrice Lumumba, and plan to research more on him to determine the accuracy of the anti-Lumumba sentiment.
Well worth the read. Wished it was even longer.

Antique Ethnography in Form of Shipwreck Tale
Revisado: 02-10-21
It's an old text, but shows an intimate, and fairly balanced view of traditional nomadic Arab life on the Southern west coastal region of Morocco in the 1815s. The original author strives to represent the environment and human life as he sees and experiences it. It kind of cuts off, meanders once the Americans shipwrecked are finally 'rescued as I would like to hear about their return... but .. can't read what isn't there 🤷🏻♀️. If interested in antique ethnography, give this a listen.
