Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Typical story. Predictable and the story was a little too long as well. Good performance by the reader though!

Historia
Amy Bloom began to notice changes in her husband, Brian: He retired early from a new job he loved; he withdrew from close friendships; he talked mostly about the past. Suddenly, it seemed there was a glass wall between them, and their long walks and talks stopped. Their world was altered forever when an MRI confirmed what they could no longer ignore: Brian had Alzheimer’s disease.

Revisado: 10-12-22
This is a great love story, and a sobering reminder to live your life fully and to do what makes you happy. Amy Bloom did a fantastic job writing her own love story, and she also read the book beautifully. Thank you Amy Bloom for sharing the love you and your husband had for each other!

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Being Happy
Revisado: 05-05-22
For me, this book is part contemplative and part travel - a great combination! I would recommend this book to people seeking to cultivate a grateful attitude, a different mindset, while also feeding their wanderlust. I continue to be amazed at how people are capable of happiness no mater where they are and what their current circumstances are. That is such a good lesson to be reminded of.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

An approach to living a good life
Revisado: 05-05-22
As the author describes the book, it is a counterintuitive approach to living a good life. This book would be very helpful in adressing a sense of entitlement.

Historia
In Unfamiliar Fishes, Sarah Vowell argues that 1898 might be a year just as crucial to our nation's identity, a year when, in an orgy of imperialism, the United States annexed Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam, and invaded Cuba and then the Philippines, becoming a meddling, self-serving, militaristic international superpower practically overnight. Of all the countries the United States invaded or colonized in 1898, Vowell considers the story of the Americanization of Hawaii to be the most intriguing.

Aloha ʻĀina (love of the land)
Revisado: 05-05-22
It's worthwhile to learn how land was taken from the people of Hawai'i, in God's name and then by the greed of businessmen. It's infuriating really...I believe the author did her research and presented the facts truthfully. People should be educated about the history of a place they love to visit.
There is something special about the people of Hawai'i, (excluding the rich folks who've bought land and squeezed out the locals,) I can't help but romanticize about what Hawai'i would be like if it remained an independent nation practicing their special spirit of Aloha.

Historia
Spending her thirtieth birthday alone is not what dating columnist Cleo Wilder wanted, but she plans a solo retreat―at the insistence of her boss―in the name of re-energizing herself and adding a new perspective to her column. The remote Irish island she’s booked is a far cry from London, but at least it’s a chance to hunker down in a luxury cabin and indulge in some self-care while she figures out the next steps in her love life and her career.

The stars of this book are Salvation Island, it’s local characters, and their sense of community. The narrators are also excellent, especially Eleanor Tomlinson.

Historia
Laurie is sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend: the man from the bus.
