Tessonja has done it again.

I liked this second Entangled with Fae novel just as much as the first.

Heart of the Raven Prince has an even slower, slow burn but with all the deception and intrigue the slow burn is valid and makes sense for the story and characters. Did that mean I was not yelling at them in my head? No, but it does mean the story felt real and the romance and love story, natural.

I also love how in each novel, Tessonja introduces the next character a little bit. Just enough to intrigue me but not overshadowing the current MC.

Ember, the female MC in this novel was in a few scenes in the first book COTWK and Maisie, the female MC in the next novel, was in a few scenes in this installment.

While fairytale retellings have a familiar plot line, in each book Tessonja has found a way to make this series super unique and stand out in this saturated genre. I will even go so far as to say these are my favorite fairytale retellings. The different aspects of magic and how the settings differ in each fae court is super interesting and I just want to find out all about it by devouring this series.

Again the narration was awesome and just an overall enjoyable listening experience. I devoured it in one day.

Just like vampires, I love reading about werewolves and wolf shifters. But, Wolf Kissed is different than anything I’ve read in the genre, in a good way. I’m so intrigued by the fact that each wolf shifter has a wolf spirit inside them and the wolf spirit could have lived multiple lives before this current one. That’s just one aspect of the lore that I love already and am so intrigued by that I can’t wait to finish the whole series and dig into some of Heather Renee’s other books like her fae series. Fae and vampires were briefly mentioned in this one so I’m thinking it’s all one world or one universe that the author, Heather has created.

I felt for both Kate and Roman and saw their differences of opinion from each perspective they are written so well and feel so real. It’s not just the possible romance that’s intriguing, Heather does an excellent job writing about friendship too and I love the friendship btw Kate and Embrey so much!

About the narration, I loved it! I love that all the male lines are read by the male narrator. Most audiobooks the two narrators break it up by chapter and so the transitions can be jarring. Not so here we have clear distinctions between male and female characters because of the narration style. It’s excellent. I love both the voices but the male depiction of Romans voice with the deep boom to it is just perfect.

Thank you Heather Renee for my free audio review copy, it was my choice to read and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

I had the pleasure of reading the Spellbound ebook as an ARC before it was released in September and now I have the pleasure of listening to it as an audiobook. I just love audiobooks so I of course loved Spellbound even more as an audiobook. Thank you to the author for my free audio review copy. It was my choice to read/listen and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

I like that Spellbound is witchy, brutal, in a world filled with magic and monsters in all forms. I loved how I got God of War mixed with Hercules vibes but if these had a female, witch MC. Unlike the ebook, I’m giving the audio 5 stars instead of 4. The narration and way you can hear the inflection in characters voices etc added to my enjoyment and helped me feel more into the book earlier on. There is a lot of unpredictability and mystery which I also love and I was satisfied with the ending.

The only complaint I have is that I didn’t realize where Elle grew up there is a bit of a country accent so when the narrator started slipping in and out of this when Elle would get upset it was a bit jarring and confusing to me until later in the book where Elle talks to someone from her hometown and Elle refers to the accent in her internal dialogue and the other person has it too. When Elle would slip into this accent sometimes I would rewind to make sure I didn’t miss something and it was actually Elle speaking.

New favorite Beauty and the Beast fairy tale retelling

Curse of the Wolf King is advertised as Beauty and the Beast meets Bridgerton and I totally agree!

It was so good! The narrator is fabulous, the humor and banter are on point, the characters are realistic and lovable, the romance and tension develop slowly but not too slowly, and it has everything I love: fae, royal courts, a strong and relatable female lead, and a swoon-worthy male lead who has depth and isn’t perfect.

I could not pause it I just wanted to keep listening for hours!

If the idea of a Belle-esque character who loves romance novels, has a gossip scandal haunting her in a time period similar to Bridgerton, and is financially savvy sounds interesting to you, you'll love Curse of the Wolf King.

I have listened to another audiobook by Caitlin Davies in the past (The Shadows Between Us) and I didn't enjoy her as a narrator for that one. But, now I'm thinking it was just that story I didn't enjoy because I LOVED her narration in Curse of the Wolf King. OR it was her narration combined with the hilarious character banter Tessonja is so good at writing. Either way, it was really good and we even briefly meet a character who will be in the next one (Heart of the Raven Prince) which is a Cinderella retelling. I can't wait for it!

Tessonja is a new favorite author and I can't wait to read all her books.

I received a review copy of this audiobook free of charge from the author- Tessonja Odette. It was my choice to read/listen and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

Favorite Fantasy Elements + lots of surprises

I received the audiobook ARC of The Fate of Crowns free of charge from the author, Rebecca L. Garcia. It was my choice to read and review.

I'm reading for the second time, the first time I read it was the ebook. Just like the first time I loved the magic, magical creatures, kingdoms, elves, and fae. I love audiobooks because you can hear the inflections in the character's voices, which I can't do well in my head. So, unlike the first time (ebook), I'm giving the audiobook 5 stars.

The tension was heightened for me in the audiobook experience especially in scenes with Winter + Cedric or Blaise and Winter + her mom or dad or Morgana. The action scenes as well like the one with the merpeople were more intense and gripping to me in the audiobook version. I felt more connected to Winter when listening to the audiobook. The narrator does a great job!

Winter's journey through the book kept me on the edge of my seat and surprised me at every turn. One of my favorite things about a book is when I try to figure out what will happen next in my head and the book takes a totally different direction and that definitely happened when reading this, multiple times.

I'm not an expert on the world yet or the fae but, I'm sure the next book will explore more and give some background to the history of the kingdoms. I flew through it and would have liked it even longer and more world-building and background details.

If you like any of the fantasy elements I mentioned above, I'd recommend reading The Fate of Crowns.
