Historia
When Alex Easton, a retired soldier, receives word that their childhood friend Madeline Usher is dying, they race to the ancestral home of the Ushers in the remote countryside of Ruritania. What they find there is a nightmare of fungal growths and possessed wildlife, surrounding a dark, pulsing lake. Madeline sleepwalks and speaks in strange voices at night, and her brother Roderick is consumed with a mysterious malady of the nerves. Aided by a redoubtable British mycologist and a baffled American doctor, Alex must unravel the secret of the House of Usher before it consumes them all.

A good story ruined by a bad narration.

Interesting retelling; poor narration
Revisado: 01-25-24
Story was decent though the pacing in the first half was a bit sluggish. There are definitely some creepy moments towards the latter half but wish the action escalated to a great ending but instead it kind of ended a bit abruptly for my tastes.
As for the narration, I'm with most other reviewers, it was rough getting through this. The narrator sounded like they were trying to over-emphasize each letter of each word where it just came off as robotic and very unnatural. And when speaking as certain characters his accents and tone just felt so forced; I'd say the equivalent of an actor over-acting.
Unfortunately I may have enjoyed the story a bit better with a different narrator.

Historia
Centuries ago, beautiful young Ilsbeth Clark was accused of witchcraft after several children disappeared. Her acquittal did nothing to stop her fellow townsfolk from drowning her in the well where the missing children were last seen. When author and social media influencer Elena returns to the summer paradise of her youth to get her family's manor house ready to sell, the last thing she expected was connecting with—and feeling inspired to write about—Ilsbeth’s infamous spirit. The very historical figure that her ex-childhood friend, Cathy, has been diligently researching.

Expected creepy witch thriller got decent Gothic Horror
Revisado: 01-19-24
Performances were great..so glad they had multiple narrators as it really helped distinguish the different characters.
The story was good though felt a little dull in the middle. Ending definitely picked up though. I thought the end wrapped things up pretty well while also leaving you questioning the overall sanity of certain characters. This felt very much akin to a classic gothic horror novel then a modern horror thriller as it was very emotion and relationship driven with elements of the supernatural so I felt the scares and horror were sorely missed. A good story nonetheless but wish there was just a bit more 'meat on the bones'.. pun intended...
