Great story - with the twists and turns all came to a very pleasant conclusion. Even though I felt so sorry for the mother and the poor choices of enterprising youth.

Historia
Cadence and her sister possess the seeds of glory and ruin—or so their father always insisted. Cadence never understood what he meant until Airlie’s seed of power is activated, turning her into the most powerful mage in generations. Despite knowing it must mean her own dormant seed is much more malevolent, Cadence is swept away to the distant Mage’s Guild in her sister’s wake. She’s used to living in Airlie’s shadow, but she can’t see a place for herself in this new world. Nor can she believe in the apparent interest of the charming Zeke. No one has ever chosen her over her beautiful sister.

Outstanding
Revisado: 03-13-25
Melanie Cellier delivers a life story for the well developed characters she created for us to get attached to. I look forward to the story continuing, but these first 4 books do leave a satisfying conclusion to everyone’s story.
As I listened I could imagine every hall, garden and room as well as the trees, rivers, caves etc.
The narrator did an amazing job delivering the various nuances of each character. I nearly always knew when each character was speaking - Airle and Cadence sometimes sounded alike but never when they were in the same scene together. They are sisters so it’s not uncommon to sound similar when not together.
I would give this narrator more than 5-stars with how well she brought us in to the story and into each character as she delivered perfectly their personalities.
If you enjoy magic, mystery and kingdom wonderment you should give this series a listen.

One bride is set on including a Native American herbal purification ceremony while another wants live peacocks on the lawn. Great story
Revisado: 01-09-25
This was so well written - full of so many twists of fate and hidden clues. So full of intriguing and intricate details. Not hard to follow all of the information that was well twisted in and out of all that was going on. And full of humor.
I am looking forward to the next story.
I am so excited to have a new author to add to my list of favorites!
Kudos to the narrator - great inflection, variety of voicing, all brought the well written story to life.
The only negative was the recording - so many words were dropped because of poor editing or something.

I have the 2 Disney animated stories - and this audio of a possible 3rd was delightful!!
It was interesting, it moved - never felt it dragged on - and loved the conclusion.
It would be fun to see this story animated now.
I recommend this for all ages who like the Beauty and the Beast stories.

Historia
With the August heat strong enough to melt solid chocolate into syrup, Jake and Ellie crave a break from the bakery ovens, despite tourist season promising a sweet payday. But they never envisioned spending the last weeks of summer drifting around Passamaquoddy Bay searching for pirate’s treasure—and a dead body. Sally Coates believes her husband was murdered off the coast, and begs Ellie, a trusted childhood friend, to locate his remains. It’s unusual that a skilled fisherman would vanish along with the gold doubloon he inherited from his grandfather.

More great storylines -
Revisado: 09-09-24
I love Sarah Graves books.
This one had us questioning cons or mischief or missing dead people or . . . . and when I still had over an hour of listening time go I wondered what more could there be other than the ‘tying up all the varying storylines - which was done well.
Then another burst of unforeseen action ensued
The narrator did very well - I wasn’t sure I would like this change in narrators at this time, but was pleasantly pleased.
The only repetitive phrase I eventually tired of was ‘and did I mention . . . . but it did get the info out there. And is Jake having more struggles being brave and is her strength wavering - as Ellie seems to remain strong - because she’s aging or settling in to a comfy life with family and friends that she’s losing some of that ‘go get ‘em’ strength she has had?
Just some thoughts as I continue to enjoy these stories.
Love this continuing series and looking forward to more books!!
And thanks for the recipe in the end - love all the baking hints and helps hinted at throughout.

Summer in Eastport means lobsters and blueberries, though tourists and locals alike always leave a little room for baked goods from The Chocolate Moose. This year’s arts festival, featuring food, games, and rollicking local musicians, means even more sweet-toothed customers. But it’s also bringing competition from a new rival, Choco’s, that’s trying to slice into the action.

Loved every minute!
Revisado: 09-05-24
Sarah Graves has been a favorite when she won me over with Dead Cat Bounce. Her Home Fixer Up series was great - and I wasn’t sure about her Death By series until I realized it was a continuation of Jake Tiptree and all my favorite characters.
Poor Ellie, wrongfully accused again - but what could they do. Everything pointed to her so clearly.
And what could Jacobia and Ellie do?? The amateur sleuths went full force and did they ever get themselves into some tight spots. LOL
Jake had me in stitches - even if I might have thought of the possibilities of her possible situations.
And who was the murderer and why — and how did he/she pull it all off??
You must read this to find out - I love how it all comes together in the end . . . . . All of the different stories and information.
I am hoping for a Jake and Ellie recipe book ‘The Chocolate Mousse - recipes tried, tested and maybe a few others’ or something like that. I really would love to try a few of their mousse-ter-pieces. Like the malted shake, raspberry and dark chocolate tart (or was it tort), and this Marshmallow Pie - to name a few. While Jake might not enjoy the sweet charred marshmallows - I know a lot of people who do . . . . including myself. Please make the recipes available.

Jake and Ellie are taking a break from perfecting their chocolate-pizza recipe to cater a housewarming party hosted by Ingrid Merryfield. Miss Merryfield is famous for her old-Hollywood glamour. Her new home, Cliff House, has a reputation too - for being haunted. But she isn’t concerned, and some of her guests even try to summon a spirit during the party. What arrives instead is a freak autumn storm that downs an ancient tree, traps everyone on the property, and leads them to stumble upon a hidden room - where they find film critic Audrey Dalton, apparently frightened to death.

Who killed who killed
Revisado: 08-27-24
Ring around the deathtrap - and why was the caterers involved? What a wonderful group of twists and turns and suggested wobbles.
I was waiting for one outcome when another possibility popped up. And as soon as you heard one possibility another question popped up.
It felt a lot like Clue - and still I would feel a bit clueless . . . . that is until yet another clue popped up.
Well written and well narrated.
As all the climbing, falling and freezing water came round and round and all the clues we thought we had gathered now flushed away - I kept wondering how long before the house crumbled down the now slippery slope and into the sea - were we really going to lose any main characters into a horrible watery grave?
Read/listen to the end to learn how this story ends.
I Have to get the next book started now!

As co-owners of Eastport's beloved waterfront bakery The Chocolate Moose, Jake and Ellie know their customers expect them to cream the competition. But they're really just in it for fun, hoping to get Jake's daughter-in-law baking again. Those plans collapse when fearsome local curmudgeon Alvin Carter is murdered, and every crumb of evidence points to Tiptree family friend - and all-around sweet guy - Billy Breyer. Billy's sisters beg Jake and Ellie to prove his innocence. After all, lots of folks had gone sour on Alvin.

Sarah Graves is on Fire —
Revisado: 08-21-24
Another great book by Sarah Graves.
She gives us so much in her writings through Jacobia and Ellie and her wonderfully scripted characters.
Helping others
Understanding others’ needs
Allowing each person to be able to make their own life decisions
And solving several other issues
ALL while discovering who murdered the victim and the how and the why.
A second dead body - or is it?
Loved the ending as well as she ties up any loose ends - all except . . . .
What happened to the cat in the end??
Well, a cat does have its nine lives so I am sure all is well.
LOL

Great book
Revisado: 08-20-24
This new series, a continuation of the Home Repair series, is really delicious - and delightful.
I so want to visit the shop and try all the scrumptious sweets - especially that chocolate malt shake. Oh my YUM! (and I don’t really like chocolate ice cream) LOL
Who really killed the bad guy - I was guessing and working with all the clues being sorted out. I never did figure it out completely until it was presented to us at the end. It was a wonderful maze of clues and mayhem.
And I was so grateful for all the loose ends being tied up cleaning at the end. And how all the strings of information were loosely woven around and intertwined until their connections were brought to a clean conclusion at the end.
Ready for another Sarah Graves mystery - wouldn’t mind a Mousse recipe book someday. 😃
