Very good
Revisado: 10-30-23
This was a dry good and well written story. It was only about novella length but felt like a fully fleshed novel. I had never heard of the author before this but I’ll be looking for more in the future.

I’m not sure what was going on here but I didn’t like it. And I hate saying that because I’m a fan of the author. But this just ain’t it.

Historia
The dense Michigan forest. Haunting wails. The clip-clop of demon hooves on a bridge to nowhere. It’s more than a tall tale to Brenda Jennings, whose sister disappeared in those woods one fateful night. Three years later, on a solo stakeout in the dark, Brenda goes in after her. She’s desperate for answers, and terrified to find what lies waiting on the other side of that bridge.

Historia
Some campfire stories are real. It’s been 25 years since Cyrus Hoyt’s infamous killing spree at Camp Forest Grove. A quarter-century since teenage counselor Melanie Holden left him mortally wounded and escaped with her life. Motivated by a lucrative publishing offer, as well as a desire to free herself from recurring nightmares, Melanie’s research into the murderer’s life brings resistance from all directions as she uncovers skeletons in Forest Grove’s past.

An okay story with an interesting twist on the slasher genre
Revisado: 03-17-23
Serafini has writing chops for days but the book lost me a few times when skipping around to different characters and not talking about the plot at hand. This could be because of listening to the audiobook version and me not paying attention at times, but the author does have an expository style of writing. It’s a good story at its core with some brutal death scenes and a great “twist” ending and explanation of why the slasher is the way he is. Overall though, It just failed to grab me and hang on to me the way I feel a slasher story should.

Another good fantasy from Gischler
Revisado: 05-28-20
Warrior Prime has all the action, magic and humor from the original trilogy only with new characters and old faces. I enjoyed this trip to the land author Victor Gischler created albeit not as much as the original trilogy. I hope he continues to write these books and as long as he does I’ll read them.

Sonya and Callie discover it’s not just the men who verbally assaulted them on the street who’ve lost their minds; men everywhere have gone insane. And they believe they’ve found the origin of the mayhem. A radio in the kitchen is playing a hate-filled message against women, and it’s being delivered by the president. There’s only one way to stop the men from attacking women, and logic tells them they need to terminate the chaos at its source.

Sex Zombies?
Revisado: 02-09-20
Well that was new. A radio transmission that’s saying a bunch of derogatory statements and pick up lines has got all the men acting crazy and trying to hump any female they see. This was my first book from C. V. Hunt and I have to say I was impressed. This was a new take on the zombie genre. One that I don’t think anyone has thought of before. It’s fast paced and violent and sexual. All the hallmarks of an extreme horror novel. It’s also heartbreaking and terrifying. Hunt let’s us get know the two protagonists very well before putting them through the gauntlet. I felt terrible for the main character and what happens to her and her girlfriend. Some of the scenes are pretty brutal and shocking and over the top. It won’t be long before I pick up another book from this author. Also I listened to the audio version and it was read exceptionally well by Ramona Masters. I’ll listen to whatever else she reads as well.

With its manicured lawns, pastel houses, and quiet, tree-lined streets, Willow Ridge seems to be the perfect place for Megan and Tyler Stokes to start a new chapter in their lives together. But soon after settling in, Megan begins to notice cracks in the neighborhood's bright suburban facade - cracks that reveal a darker secret hidden just beneath the surface. Not Rector’s best but good nonetheless
Revisado: 01-13-20
Starts out as a stereotypical “I was forced to live in the suburbs and I hate it” kind of story. Then quickly becomes something a little different. As usual Rector’s books are highly suspenseful and are always straight to the point. The downside of that is that his prose is very bare bones. There are no flashy or sparkling words to spice it up. Another downside of this particular book is that I can’t stand the main character. I don’t mind unlikable characters it’s just that this one is very annoying and clingy and makes you want to slap some sense into her and tell her to grow up. Overall though it’s another good book in John Rector’s resume but probably my least favorite of the bunch.

Another good one
Revisado: 12-06-19
Another exciting and suspenseful novel from Wright. This time we’ve got a story about the Devil himself hanging out in a pub and getting his drinking mates into a hellish (sorry) situation. I’ll save the plot to avoid spoilers but believe me there’s some cool and Interesting stuff here that is a bit different than the authors other work. If you love horror you can’t go wrong with Wrights books.
Aubrey parsons once again does a great job of narrating this one. His pace is quick and his voices are distinct. I’ll listen to anything he narrates in the future. I recommend the audio for sure if you like your stories that way.

Suspenseful
Revisado: 11-26-19
Escape! is a suspenseful horror thriller in the vein of the Saw movies. A group of coworkers are invited to an escape room to build some team spirit. (I’m surprised more horror authors haven’t used this idea of an escape room. Be prepared to see more after this). Once inside the room though things quickly turn out worse than expected. It’s a fast paced edge of your seat kind of story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fans of extreme horror may not find this as satisfying though. It’s definitely PG-13 horror. Maybe a light R. It’s not exactly bloody or gory. But there are plenty of death scenes. The tension quickly ramps up as we discover secrets about each coworker. Wright does a fine job of bringing these characters to life. You’ll be rooting for somebody one instant and the next disgusted by their actions. He has a real winner on his hands here.
The narrator of the audiobook, Aubrey Parsons, does an excellent job of carrying the heavy load of an ensemble cast. Every character has a distinct voice and I had no trouble keeping up with who was who.
Overall a great horror thriller with plenty of suspense and drama.

When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Military zombie action
Revisado: 10-30-19
Patient Zero is about a man named Joe Ledger who is hired to stop some terrorists from unleashing a plague on the world that turns everybody into zombies. There’s action, twist and turns, secret government groups, and lots of military operations.
This is a big book with tons of detail. Think TV series as opposed to a movie. It feels like everything is shown here though. There’s multiple point of views with very distinct voices...and we hear every single one. It has horror elements like zombies and mad scientists too, but is planted firmly in the military espionage category. For example there’s a lot more military and science jargon than zombies eating people.
It’s long winded, but has some big action scenes. At times I was bored with the day to day discussions we have to sit through and I almost stopped listening to it. (After every major event the characters pull back and talk about what happened and what to do next.) But I trudged on and the book ended up being pretty entertaining ending with a big battle scene and revelations. All and all a good start to what apparently is a very long series.
