Historia
In Non-Toxic Masculinity, Zachary Wagner tells men, "If you are in Christ, this is your problem—and you should be part of the solution." Reflecting on his own coming of age in the purity culture movement and ongoing recovery from sexual shame, Wagner confronts harmful teaching from the American church that has distorted desire, sex, relationships, and responsibility. For those—both men and women—who feel disillusioned and adrift, this book offers a renewed vision for Christian male sexuality founded in empathy and selflessness.

I am grateful for Zachary and his wife Shelby's honesty and sharing their life stories. I found this book empowering. The author explains what we have endured for decades. he has needed fresh ideas that not only confront toxicity but empower those harmed by it and advocate for non toxic masculinity. Everyone reading will find it useful. Thank you for your input in the mutuality movement. Blessings to you both.

Dr.CM separates the good aspects of the culture of purity from the twisted "purity culture" = "Not damaged goods"
Revisado: 10-18-24
I appreciate her efforts to untangle this subject of recovering from "purity culture" that has devastated many. I am certain those who have been abused or settled for abusive relationships due to feeling "damaged goods" will feel validated that they are precious.

Historia
Recruited into the fundamentalist Quiverfull movement as a young wife, Tia Levings learned that being a good Christian meant following a list of additional life principles—a series of secret, special rules to obey. Being a godly and submissive wife in Christian Patriarchy included strict discipline, isolation, and an alternative lifestyle that appeared wholesome to outsiders. Women were to be silent, “keepers of the home.” A Well-Trained Wife is an unforgettable memoir about a woman's race to save herself and her family and details the ways that extreme views can manifest in a marriage.

Tia's resilience, bravery and unstoppable spirit.
Revisado: 08-29-24
Tia's story is sad yet empowering that she broke free from abusive relationships: marriage as well as within faith communities. My heart wept as I listened to her brutal marital rape narrative requiring doctor's visit. Her fortitude is commendable and her actions to write, stand on two feet and be self sufficient is amazing. Tia is strong, courageous and a badass of a woman. Thank you, Tia, for telling your story. May it empower other women to break free too.
