Historia
Tales of the Texas Rangers is a 20th-century Western old-time radio and television police procedural drama that originally aired on NBC Radio from 1950 to 1952 and later on CBS Television from 1955 to 1958. Film star Joel McCrea voiced the radio version as the fictitious Texas Ranger Jace Pearson, who uses the latest scientific techniques to identify criminals. His faithful horse Charcoal (or "Charky") helps Pearson to track down the culprits.

Historia
Set in Dodge City, Kansas, during the thriving cattle days of the 1870s, the Gunsmoke radio show was routinely called by radio drama enthusiasts “the best show of any kind and any time”. For nine years from 1952 to 1961, Gunsmoke dominated the airwaves as it portrayed the epic legend of the American West. The lead character of Marshall Matt Dillon, as played by William Conrad, was called the “Philip Marlowe of the Old West”. Besides Conrad, the superb supporting cast included Parley Baer as Chester, Howard McNear as Doc Adams, and Georgia Ellis as Miss Kitty.

Good old time radio.
Revisado: 08-18-24
Good old time radio program. Granted, there are limits to the amount of plot lines and character actors. But it's STILL a terrific bargain. Note: These episodes can also be found for free on archive, but I like the way they are organized on audible.
My one big problem is that the title is misleading. These are NOT commercial free episodes ... so I docked a star for that reason.

In Stalling for Time, the FBI’s chief hostage negotiator takes readers on a harrowing tour through many of the most famous hostage crises in the history of the modern FBI, including the siege at Waco, the Montana Freemen standoff, and the D.C. sniper attacks. Having helped develop the FBI’s nonviolent communication techniques for achieving peaceful outcomes in tense situations, Gary Noesner offers a candid, fascinating look back at his years as an innovator in the ranks of the Bureau and a pioneer on the front lines.

What about Janet Reno's roll in the Waco tragety?!
Revisado: 07-29-23
I have not read the whole book (yet). BUT it seems that Gary Noesner really let Janet Reno off the hook re Waco.
I couldn't believe it.
I'm assuming Noesner is a Democrat based on the way he seems to have let the Clinton administration slide.
I don't care which political party you belong to.
But, FOR THE LOVE PETE, don't gloss over Janet Reno's complicity in the handling of Waco!
I hope Noesner touches on this in later chapters.

Modern history is filled with terrible crimes, baffling hoaxes, and seedy scandals. The infamous Jack the Ripper slayings. The alleged survival of Anastasia Romanov, the youngest daughter of the murdered Tsar. Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong's public fall from grace. The Chicago Tylenol poisonings and the copycat crimes that followed.

Historia
Originally published in 1978 as The Beach Boys and the California Myth, this groundbreaking study was both the first full-length book on the band and the first to recognize Brian Wilson as one of the most significant and influential artists of the twentieth century. Covering the turbulent family strife and internal conflicts as well as giving proper attention to the remarkable music, the book was an instant classic.

Doctor McCoy [Star Trek]: "I'm a Doctor, Jim, not a music critic!"
That's kind of how I feel writing this review.
Suffice it to say that David Marks filled a gap that was desperately needed when he wrote his original book on "the Beach Boys and the California Myth." Now he has provided a MUCH needed service with this updated version.
As a kid in the 1970s I heard the Beach Boys' compilation albums "Endless Summer" (released in 1974) and "Spirit of America" (Released in 1975). As a result, I became an instant massive fan and I was starving for information about the Beach Boys. STARVING. I could not find much at the very small local library. I rarely came across radio interviews, documentaries, or written pieces for that matter.
David Leaf's book was one of the first books on the Beach Boys that I came across. While I don't agree with his interpretations on a number of things, I do believe his updated revision is a timely, much needed work.
Thank you, David (and the publisher) SOOO MUCH for making "God Only Knows" available in audio format!
Now let's hope the same happens for Mark A. Moore's Tome, "Dead Man's Curve: The Rock 'n' Roll Life of Jan Berry."

Love the interviews!
Revisado: 03-11-23
Alan Cross has an amazing radio voice and I've really enjoyed his "Guide To Alternative Rock" series. But that series is, apparently, available on audible.com. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? Please bring the series back.
I would LOVE to hear Alan do another series, say, about Power Pop. I'd love to hear him discuss the influence that Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys, The Beatles and other bands have had on the Power Pop genre. But I have no idea whether or not Alan Cross like's the Beach Boys, the Beatles or Power Pop.
Thank you, Alan, for your podcasts & audible audio books!

Historia
Have you ever felt too intimidated to witness to people in cults and other religions? You're not alone. But it really isn't nearly as hard as you might initially think. In fact, it's really a wonderful blessing when we get to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost, regardless of how they respond. God is still glorified when we are faithful. This podcast is real conversations with Jehovah's Witnesses from back when they were still expected to go door to door and stand on street corners with their magazine carts. I hope you find them to be an encouragement to you. You can find more of ...

Historia
Reflecting on the Beach Boys’ long, fascinating history, this book tells the story behind 50 of the band’s greatest songs from the perspective of group members, collaborators, fellow musicians, and notable fans. The band's music is as influential now as it was 50 years ago, and this retelling of how the iconic rock group found itself in the annals of pop culture couldn't come at a better time.

Revisado: 04-15-21
This book deserves SIX stars, so I don't get the person who gave a negative review.
I've read many Beach Boys bios and this one is quite unique. We get tremendous amount of insight from some rather well known artists. It is a fascinating and delightful read!
