Historia
The Devil, Satan, Lucifer, Mephistopheles - throughout history the Prince of Darkness, the Western world's most powerful symbol of evil, has taken many names and shapes. Jeffrey Burton Russell here chronicles the remarkable story of the Devil from antiquity to the present. While recounting how past generations have personified evil, he deepens our understanding of the ways in which people have dealt with the enduring problem of radical evil. Russell uncovers the origins of the concept of the Devil in various early cultures and then traces its evolution in Western thought from the time of the ancient Hebrews through the first centuries of the Christian era. Next he turns to the medieval view of the Devil, focusing on images found in folklore, scholastic thought, art, literature, mysticism, and witchcraft.

Well done!!!!
Revisado: 10-29-23
I haven’t gotten around to reading Russell’s full set of volumes on the devil but just found this on audible. Just as he says at the beginning, this more brief volume is for the reader whose interest is immediate rather than academic and it suited my interest perfectly! His scope is broad enough (poetry, drama, literature, philosophy, history, theology, folklore) to offer serious knowledge and insight and foster understanding but is stream lined skillfully so that the reader never feels like they are reading a dissertation for someone’s thesis.

Wonderful!!!

Simon Callow has written a wonderful biography and has provided a delightful narration! Even being already somewhat familiar with Wagner’s life, I gained plenty of deeper insight and details about the composer.
Highly recommended!

Are you tired of "how to publish books" that are full of fluff and no real information? I was, too. I determined to jump in and learn for myself - and that's exactly what I did. I started with my first book, How to Work from Home and Make Money, and then quickly published three more. I was looking for the topic of my fifth book when it hit me - why not share what I've learned with the people who still haven't made the leap and published their own book?

Historia
John Milton's Paradise Lost is one of the greatest epic poems in the English language. It tells the story of the Fall of Man, a tale of immense drama and excitement, of rebellion and treachery, of innocence pitted against corruption, in which God and Satan fight a bitter battle for control of mankind's destiny.

Perfect Performance
Revisado: 02-02-21
This is a perfect performance of Paradise Lost. Simon Vance is never too dramatic and never boring. He maintains a serious tone that does not sacrifice the expression of the poems passion.
