Historia
Graduating from Harvard at the height of World War II, brilliant mathematician Charlie Fish is assigned to the Manhattan Project. Working with some of the age’s greatest scientific minds, including J. Robert Oppenheimer and Leo Szilard, Charlie is assigned the task of designing and building the detonator of the atomic bomb. As he performs that work Charlie suffers a crisis of conscience, which his wife, Brenda—unaware of the true nature of Charlie’s task—mistakes as self-doubt. Once the bombs strike Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the feelings of culpability devastate him and Brenda.

So good and yet tortured
Revisado: 05-16-23
Tortured passionate love.
Some factual events from WWII woven into a very innocent love story. The war can turn something very beautiful into something very tortured then love can turn it back around again.
Don’t miss this story! If you catch it on sale then bonus! I did and made it even sweeter. If not it’s still a great read or listen!

Historia
In July 1913, 25-year-old Annie Clements had seen enough of the world to know that it was unfair. She’s spent her whole life in the copper-mining town of Calumet, Michigan, where men risk their lives for meager salaries - and had barely enough to put food on the table and clothes on their backs. The women labor in the houses of the elite and send their husbands and sons deep underground each day. When Annie decides to stand up for herself and the entire town of Calumet, nearly everyone believes she may have taken on more than she is prepared to handle.

Couldn’t finish
Revisado: 05-16-23
Oh my goodness!
How long before it actually starts to tell the story? I feel like I have been listening forever and have been hearing the same rhetoric over and over. I had to stop around chapter 8. I usually don’t give up on books and was very interested in this story as my husband is from Michigan and his family. We are also going to be moving back there in the next couple of months. So a bit of history would have been interesting. The narrator is one of my favorites and I understand that she was mispronouncing different places and items wrong, I could have gotten past that since I’m not originally a Michiganger or a Uper. But I just found that there was a bit too much historical before dialog got started. Just personal preference I suppose!

Historia
Recently separated Amelia Saxton, a dedicated journalist, never expected that uncovering the biggest story of her career would become deeply personal. But when she discovers that a cluster of embryos belonging to her childhood friend Parker and his late wife Greer have been deemed “abandoned”, she’s put in the unenviable position of telling Parker - and dredging up old wounds in the process.

The Marsh Girl Kya
Revisado: 07-24-22
I can’t wait to see the movie but can’t imagine them being able to get ever nuance of Kya this self preserving girl turned woman over years of sadness loneliness, love and fear just right.
Such a well written story of lives intertwined and and yet lived a life of solice all the same. Not by choice but by the very people who were meant to love and care for her.
A true love does come along leaves and returns a bit late. Kya feels trial and tribulations search for her never more so than when the whole town turns on her, all but her 3 true friends. The Marsh Girl is an artist, scientist, author, poet. Don’t let her surprise you of her many talents! Don’t miss this book

This book took me on a journey to a place I love and have been to many times, the Great Smokie Mountains
I found the story interesting, the narration to be pleasant and very good when she switched from female to male to child. Loved the twists and turns.
Great ending!

Historia
Hilton Head, a South Carolina retirement heaven - at least it's supposed to be, but for Big Al and Connie Russo, the move from New Jersey to this Southern paradise has been fraught with just a few complications. Especially for their daughter, Grace. Well, that's what she likes to be called. Her family insists on Maria Graziella. Seriously, enough with the Neapolitan. That might have been okay in New Jersey, but now it's just plain silly, and Grace, at 32 is - horror of horrors - still unmarried.
