Historia
Felicia “Fe Fe” Stevens is living with her vigilantly loving mother and older teenaged brother, whom she adores, in building 4950 of Chicago’s Robert Taylor Homes. It’s the summer of 1999, and her high-rise is next in line to be torn down by the Chicago Housing Authority. She, with the devout Precious Brown and Stacia Buchanan, daughter of a Gangster Disciple Queen-Pin, form a tentative trio and, for a brief moment, carve out for themselves a simple life of Double Dutch and innocence.

Historia
Corbin College, not quite upstate New York, winter 1959-1960: Ruben Blum, a Jewish historian—but not an historian of the Jews—is co-opted onto a hiring committee to review the application of an exiled Israeli scholar specializing in the Spanish Inquisition. When Benzion Netanyahu shows up for an interview, family unexpectedly in tow, Blum plays the reluctant host to guests who proceed to lay waste to his American complacencies. Mixing fiction with nonfiction, the campus novel with the lecture, The Netanyahus is a wildly inventive comedy of blending, identity, and politics.

Enjoyed the book, NOT THE MUSIC.
Revisado: 08-20-22
I come to Audible to hear the book read to me, and certainly allow for and understand the actors and readers add their the interpretations. But the music and indeed the added sound effects, were distracting and even, at times, a bit distasteful. It was more of a 1940s radio play, then an audiobook. I felt they detracted from the book, which is strong enough on its own as a read and did not need music at sandwiching the chapters.

I hoped for better
Revisado: 12-31-21
I was so excited to listen to a boom where the main character was a young girl with autism. I commend Ms. Walker for working so hard to create an accurate portrayal in the beginning of this book. But the same care needed to be used on the plot. I wish she had kept the crime story simple. The conclusion was so convoluted and preposterous, it broke down the integrity of the characters that she had spent such care building. It was an extremely disappointing book.

A bad romance novel wrapped in great historical in
Revisado: 02-20-17
What did you like best about Sarah's Key? What did you like least?
I loved the exploration of France's history in deporting and executing Jews during the Nazi occupation as well as the exploration of the national psyche of looking away from this period. And I thought the main character's need to follow the story through until this day and age was well done and realistic — most good reporters would do that.
What could Tatiana de Rosnay have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It was such a serious subject and so very well done but all of it was wrapped into a very poorly written love story. The main character charged through all of the roadblocks in gathering this story and yet when it came to her own life, she was not able to answer any questions or see anything clearly and acted more like a follow-your-man-anywhere character from the 1950s. I found that incongruous. And I think that a reporter as good as this one, would not have looked away when it came to the guards and the others who were complicit. That twist did not ring true. Any good editor would have stepped in much earlier to be sure the reporter was covering the full story.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The reader was amazing and she did a wonderful job of telling the story. It was engaging.
Was Sarah's Key worth the listening time?
No. I wish the story had ended at the anniversary. I could have cared less about the love story.
