Historia
In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

The whole series is amazing
Revisado: 04-20-25
Narration was clear and defined the characters well. The pace of narration was excellent. The story is compelling. The characters very relatable. The addition of the prequel which I read long after I read the other books, enriched the experience.

Historia
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Historical fiction that reads like fantasy
Revisado: 01-08-24
Interesting first person survival with dreamy philosophy. It makes me think of Thoreau, who was terrified by the forest of New Hampshire. Or Conrad Richters “ the Trees”. Farley Mowat’s “lost in the Barrens”. Worth your time.

Alma and her family live a life close to the land. Then, one night, she abruptly leaves it all behind. This is a propulsive, funny, and thought-provoking debut about a woman in isolation whose mind - fueled by capitalism, motherhood, and the search for meaningful art - attempts to betray her.

All in all, I enjoyed this short novel. I found the first passages of the book off putting but when I persisted with
The story I became more interested. It is a story about obsession and so unsettling. It is also a story about homecoming and so rewarding. I would like to see more by this author. It was too short!

Great story, great predictive fiction.wonderful characters. Yes there’s a little bit of sexism, but the book was written in 1948 hey it’s still ahead of its time for strong female characters and valid characterizations of people in equal relationships. Poses those philosophical questions Heinlein is known for, with substance, thought provoking questions and excellent prose.

Historia
A little more than a century from now, our world has been utterly transformed. After years of slowly overtaking the continent, rising floodwaters have obliterated America’s great coastal cities and then its heartland, leaving nothing but an archipelago of mountaintop colonies surrounded by a deep expanse of open water. Stubbornly independent Myra and her precocious seven-year-old daughter, Pearl, fish from their small boat, the Bird, visiting dry land only to trade for supplies and information in the few remaining outposts of civilization.

Pretty Good story
Revisado: 11-23-22
This book had a fairly good story, but some areas could have been written better. More detail about sailing and proper terms would be good.
The author goes into detail about her daughters thin hair and skin condition secondary to scurvy, then it is never mentioned it again.
The irritability of the protagonist and the whining of her daughter were somewhat distracting. However the storyline hung together well enough to keep me listening.
The daughters abilities and use of snakes was interesting.

A story of poverty vs wealth, pestilence, greed, pandemic, science; the importance of education and public health and respect for all people.
The pestilence is cholera, and the story is of today.
The narrator is excellent. Prepare to be enthralled, the read “the Mammoth Cheese” by the same author.
