Historia
This homicide case featured aristocrats as far as the eye could see, between the Russians and the Spaniards, and Acton, of course, who was supposedly investigating the others, but seemed a little too deferential for Doyle's taste. Why wasn't her husband moving in on the killer?

Always love the stories and the series BUT what happened to Marnye Young, the original narrator? I found myself reading most of this book instead of listening. Did not enjoy this narration. If I wasn’t actually reading and listening at the same time I couldn’t tell which character was speaking. I miss the richness of Marnye Young’s accents.

It's all about the narrators!
Revisado: 02-19-16
Since this is a review of the story, let me first say that the story was very much in keeping with the others in the "Only" series...enjoyable none the less.
My criticism is for the narrator but not just this particular narrator. I've listened to countless audio books and I have to say that with very few exceptions I find female narrators to be far superior to their male counterparts. The really great ones have a wonderful range of voices for both the female and male characters.

A good story, poor narrator
Revisado: 01-28-16
I'm always amazed what a difference a great narrator makes to the overall enjoyment of a story. I did finally have to stop listening to this book and just read the kindle version, otherwise I would have missed out on a really good story.

Great story, not so great narrator
Revisado: 11-12-15
I always enjoy Allison Brennan books, especially the Lucy Kincaid series. However I think I would have enjoyed No Good Deed more if I had read it and not listened. Narrator is way too dramatic and sometimes makes the female characters sound weak and whiny.

Worst narrator ever
Revisado: 10-21-15
Story wasn't as good as most of Linda Howard's books. Maybe the narrator spoiled it for me. I'd be happy if Natalie Ross narrated all of Linda Howard's and Elizabeth
Lowell's books...one of the best narrators I've listened to!

This a very entertaining series. I'm on book 3 and I'm thoroughly enjoying the ride. I think Frances Fuller is a good fit as narrator, however, she does mispronounce quite a number of words which I do find bothersome.

Historia
Two spellbinding mysteries, one contemporary, and one ancient - that will challenge Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James as no case ever has. Glastonbury is a town revered as the mythical burial place of King Arthur, and, according to New Age followers, a source of strong Druid power. Something terrible and bloody shattered Glastonbury Abbey's peace long ago - and now it is about to spark a violence that will reach forward into the present.

I'm in this for the entertainment...
Revisado: 12-21-14
I'm reviewing this particular book of Crombie's after reading many of the other reviews. It seems you either accept and enjoy the mystical slant of this particular mystery or you don't like it at all. I belong to the former camp. In my old age I've landed in this place where I want only to to be entertained by a good story. I found the juxtaposition of this ghostly tale and the present day murder story quite enjoyable. As I read mainly fiction these days, I have no issue accepting most anything the author wants to throw at me. As long as it's done well. I find I'm more exasperated by the back and forth of Gemma's and Duncan's love story...one step forward, two back. However, that's me thinking they're wasting too much precious time apart!
I would like to make a comment about the narrator who can really make or break a book. Jenny Sterlin is only ok for me. I find her interpretation of the male roles weak. I much preferred the story telling of Michael Deehy.

Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

Revisado: 10-21-14
Rarely have I enjoyed any books as much as Louise Penny's the Chief Inspector Gamache series. I've been saving the most recent release, The Long Way Home, because I don't want to say good bye to this cast of characters. A very big part of the success of these audiobooks for me was the most excellent performance of narrator, Ralph Cosham. It is my fervent hope that Louise Penny is not done entertaining us with Gamache and the wonderful residents of Three Pines.

Love this series...
Revisado: 10-21-14
I would definitely recommend this book and, so far, this series. If you're looking for pure entertainment, these books fill the bill. I listen to my books as I walk every morning and I wonder what people think as I laugh out loud at Charlie and her zany cohorts, alive and departed. I must say that Lorelei King gives a superb performance. I'm never in any doubt as to which character she is portraying...great range vocally and emotionally. I've always been an avid reader, but Its a very different experience listening to a narrator's interpretation of books. You won't be disappointed with Lorelei King or Darynda Jones.
