Just no.
Revisado: 07-24-24
It over generalized and sounds like it comes from an 1800’s understanding with little to be gained from it.

Historia
The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

What the…?
Revisado: 06-11-24
This book was not what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be a fad diet book but what I got instead was a trove of information about food and out guts that really opened my eyes to understanding food.
The orientation around nature was right up with what I believe as a human on the planet and spiritual philosophy as well as science oriented around facts and human studies, the processes that go on etc.
I felt like it was so comprehensive to understand food that I can’t unsee what I have learned. It’s also opened my eyes to understanding how I actually don’t know how to eat.
I will definitely recommend this book to anyone curious about their health or even looking for recipes.
This book is what I needed to help me understand and change because I don’t usually change anything unless someone can offer me enough compelling evidence and understanding to get me to do so.
This book does.

Loved it.
Revisado: 04-26-24
I usually read science fact and have read a couple of books on the theory of everything. That said, I loved The Theory of Everything Else. It was a fun read and I had a lot of laughs.
There were things I have heard of before and things I had never heard of including some interesting beliefs that lead to facts.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes weird and unusual but also reality and facts. Life is filled with all sorta of thinking that lead to brilliant innovations but also not so great things.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed it very much.

Historia
A prize-winning journalist with a background in neuroscience, Helen Thomson spent years tracking down people who live with the world's most extraordinary neurological disorders - like a man who tried to break his back because his legs no longer felt like his own, and another who believed that he was dead for nine years. Not content to simply read about these cases on paper, Thomson reached out to 10 people with these afflictions, and they agreed to tell her their stories.

Insightful even if you aren’t extraordinary!
Revisado: 01-12-24
I found this book so relatable in understanding certain things about myself but how world views and life experiences can be incredibly different from one person to the next. I am fascinated by what the brain in capable of but rarely do we ever get to hear about the people these things effect from their own perspective. I love to hear about how things are described in their own words because I find it more relatable when trying to understand the science and how descriptions of the internal worlds are abstract. I definitely recommend this book.

The way I see my own brain
Revisado: 12-29-23
I have often gotten confused about the different way autistic brains work, mine included. This helps me understand more about my own way of thinking so that I don’t feel so bad about the way I try to talk to people about the things that I really think about.
I feel like there are some areas that I could expand on because it feels insufficient but I like where it leads.
Dr. Grandin helps me feel not so different anymore. I mean I am different. I have always known I am different. I just feel less isolated and that really means something to me.

I have mixed feelings
Revisado: 02-18-23
Parts of this book feel extremely ableist and I understand it but it triggers a particular way people have been to me in ways that I could never be.
Parts of it are written with this idea that we CAN or all have the gift to be special when I know I am just mediocre.
On the other hard, identifying the challenges we have is in many ways are so specific and relatable primarily in the drugs department yet at the same time, saying that autism is caused by gut flora imbalance just made me want to chuck the book out the window.
I feel like it has a lot of good information but also a lot of ableism and ideas that don’t quite include many of us who are not savants or how our “gifts” feel more like inadequacies instead of practical and hit cringey notes on gender roles being different but acknowledging more problematic issues that lgbtqia or solitary autistics women face which makes it feel hopeless in many ways.
I feel like the authors approach is logical in many ways yet being autistic there are so many things I personally could never do and I simply hate the idea of being “trained.”
So I don’t know. I think it has some good information but also basically hate the book. No hate to the author since I can plainly see that she is glib, direct and set in her ways. That’s not a bad thing since I am the same way but very put off by the idea of still suggesting we can change if why just do this or that or that autism can be fixed when we know it cannot.

Historia
In Unmasking Autism, Dr. Devon Price shares their personal experience with masking and blends history, social science research, prescriptions, and personal profiles to tell a story of neurodivergence that has thus far been dominated by those on the outside looking in. For Dr. Price and many others, Autism is a deep source of uniqueness and beauty. Unfortunately, living in a neurotypical world means it can also be a source of incredible alienation and pain.

Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Truth
Revisado: 07-09-21
The stories, the science, the wisdom struck every cord in the fibers of my being. At times it was extremely difficult to keep reading because I know some of the stories like they are my own BUT understanding why helps me make sense of many things as I try to heal my own wounds on my own healing journey with my own team of professionals.
I recommend this book to anyone who suffers from things in their past that are extremely hard “regulate”. Before this book I had never heard the expression “what happened to you” in this context.
