The storyline keeps changing
Revisado: 12-28-23
Warning spoilers
The author is now rehashing lots of jokes and and subplots over with only minor changes making it obvious they are out of ideas and using fillers. What is really bad is they are flipping earlier subplots like MC girlfriend is supper rich, but now the MC has to save her family from ruin, but selling artifacts they say they won't sell, because it goes against their morale values. So the MC gets people to do things for him them won' to for anyone else because he doesn't plan to keep any of the money, but then he gives all the money to his girl friend family who is suddenly poor because the land is poisoned, but in the previous books all their wealth came mining helium 3, not from farming, making no sense. The MC has become condescending and has simple ideas the anyone could think of, which won't work, except they do.
In other words the story has become boring and predictable, The MC has become ego centric and controlling and everyone will do anything for him because he means well, but breaks his word at every step.
I really enjoyed the story until now, but the author clearly is just milking it now and there is no story any longer.

Maulkin and his Eternal allies may have just caused the apocalypse, but at least they’re doing it with style. The Voidgod is back and the Alvaren Queen is now convinced that Maulkin is the second coming of the Voidgod himself, but at least they have the totally awesome magic sword made out of the weapon that put the big bad down for a long nap last time! No wait, they don’t. The first thing Araphel did after stretching and yawning was to turn it to dust.

The series has come to an a end
Revisado: 04-29-22
Unfortunately, the author has lost the thread and the storyline has gone from a good LITRPG to pure fantasy. While the author makes some references to states and abilities the ending comes across as anything goes and who cares about all the previous work to stay within the context of the story, I'll just make up god like powers to get it over with faster. Obviously, the author has lost interest in the story and is just writing whatever comes to mind now. Mostly, they seem to believe that anything they write is so funny that it will just work, without the effort to put it in context of the stories guidelines. The story is no longer guided by LITRPG rules as it just pays token reference to them now and uses "he Jim'ed it up" or "he's the mayor" to justify everything. All logic has gone and poor humor has replaced it.
The storyline has gone from a plotline to random event happening. Obviously, the author has taken the I'll extend the series forever and threw out any attempt at a plot that would point to an ending. At the same time they have no meaningful character interactions, unless you count Jim lusting over the princesses body while she treats him as a worthless as meaningful (I don't think accepting someone's bad treatment of you, because they have a body you want to have sex with is meaningful, or a good message to be pushing).
The author's humor used to work because they cast it as dopy dad humor within the confines of the story, since the confines of the story have disappeared, the humor falls flat and comes across as anything I say must be humorous, so why aren't you laughing.
I am sorry to see a decent story/author go downhill like this and will not read/listen to any more from this author as their creativity has obviously disappeared with their increase in ego and they have resorted to writing whatever pops into their head and calling it a story instead of working a real plot.

Story and MC never evolve
Revisado: 12-22-21
I have to agree with many of the other negative comments. The MC is whines about everything, constantly frets about is it okay to have sex with a NPC and is this cheating on his old girl friend, which is really a racist view of NPC, verses ex-human. Rants about how some people are s*heads, but when his friends act like bigoted s*heads they are just joking around. The main problem is the MC never evolves into a real person, they just stay the same, which makes it hard to believe they are anything more than the stock boy they started as. The height of leaderships is the MC sayings "everyone did a great job" while the MC forgets to use the new skills and spells that would help them more and more. Its like the MC is devolving into a simpler character, which is a sign that the author plans to stretch out the story even more. The storyline is doing the same, asking if the standard is this person really bad, or good depending on your view, which is a good question to ask. The author tries to frame it well, but then ignores things he has stated in the past like the "the king is a a*hole" then switching to "the king is really nice to me" so on and on.
And yes the MC goes on and on about how unfair the world is, then switches to I just got to boot strap myself and deal with it, then back to how unfair it all is. It wouldn't be bad if the MC was growing, but that is the problem, they never do, just repeat and repeat and make even more stupid mistakes than the last time.
So if you like spinning your wheels and want to read about someone who is never going to grow out of a childish view of the world this is a good series for you. I will not purchase anymore and wish I had given up earlier, but the series and writing had potential, the author just wasted it by not having any idea where he was taking the story, except to setup another book sale in the series. It is obvious the author is trying to copy the idea behind the legend of Drizzt series, but it is also obvious they lack the maturity to deal with these questions in any meaningful way and in the end don't even try to. They just pose the question and act like it is such a great things to know that the question even exists then lets all go back to being stupid and childish again, so we can ask it again and ignore the meaning of it again. They basically think they are creating drama, but fail to create any meaning or learn from it.

Historia
After dying and being reborn into a world that's built like a video game, Jim has found himself stuck in a very old-world style new-player zone for low-level adventurers. Unfortunately, the zone fell out of use centuries ago, and no one told the monsters they were supposed to take it easy on the Noobs. Even worse, the only new player around is Jim. Jim has been given an opportunity, and he'll do his best to take advantage of it.

Entertaining but weak plot
Revisado: 07-23-21
Let me say first that I really liked the way the Author used his knowledge of D&D to structure the story line. Also, I listened to all 5 of the books, so this is a review of the series not just the first book.
The Author has a good sense of humor and write and interesting plot line that has lots of potential. He does a good job of wrapping up each book, so you are not left hanging, but still wanting to read more.
The bad part is the Author shows his lack of professionalism by writing himself into plot dead ends. Instead putting the work into rewriting the story to remove the problem he resorts to miracles. So the story goes along like a good D&D story, then suddenly he creates a situation were the main character (MC) can't get out of without the help of someone/something else that doesn't align with the logic of the story, so we have the miracle occur and everything is good. The sad part is the situation is usually a conflict that is artificially created as a way to setup the miracle. The bottom line is that instead of using plot twists, the Author creates logic breaks in the story then uses miracles to keep the listener guessing, this works is used sparingly, unfortunately, he uses it more and more as the books progress until the story no longer even remotely makes sense. The best way to describe it is say someone is telling you a story and starts out good, but as they are telling you it they are drinking, as time goes on they get drunker and drunker and the story gets more and more disconnected from how it started, until you are left feeling like they will say anything just to keep going, this is how you feel by book 5. The ending of book 5 is complete crap, so many unbelievable things happen and the author get around all the plot wholes and dead ends with "we are hacking the system" which he explains breaks the system, so everything is good no matter how much it breaks the story.
You see all the plot wholes and work arounds in the early books it is just that there is lots of story also, but as the books go on the story gets smaller and smaller and the plot wholes and work arounds get bigger and bigger.
If you listen to the books you are advised to stop at book 3 as the Author is so drunk on their own BS that the rest of the books are like going to a bar an listening to the local drunk. It is a shame, because if they put the work in they could make this into a really good LITRPG, but he uses a lot more fillers as he goes on and put even less work into the storyline.
The narrator is not bad, just lazy as there are a number of times they mix up the voices they are using, which shows they are not editing out mistakes just collecting a pay check.

Entertaining but weak plot
Revisado: 06-19-21
Overall the book is entertaining and along the lines of most Luke Chmilenko stories. It does have some plot holes and the male female interaction is very PG, to the point of being childish. It is more of a Bro's story than Luke's other stories, which is what creates the plot holes as the thread goes along like this, break in, fight evil, that was wonderful, let's do it again. Oh there is also the ,we are way over our heads, so I need to come up with something the breaks all the rules. Another review put it correctly, this is NOT a LitRPG, it is a fantasy story with references to LitRPG as more of a way to frame content more than provide a frame work as they keep changing the rules to make the story work.
Given the above, the story is still a Luke Chmilenko style of entertainment by use of to hell with everything, let's enjoy ourselves and see what happens, it just doesn't have his normal attention to detail. I felt it was worth the money because it takes you out of your worries and makes you feel good. It could be better, but it still does what it is suppose to, which is entertain.

Just a Prelude for book 5, 6, 7, etc..
Revisado: 05-06-21
Not much story here, as it is mostly a just laying the ground work for the next series of books. I almost wish I had stopped at book 3. Book 4 doesn't leave you feeling like you have done anything more then read the prelude for the next book, like the author needed to get the book out to generate money. It does lay the foundation for a lot more books, so it is a setup for a long series, but if they are all short on storyline like this one I think I will pass as it seems the author ran out of original ideas with the first three books and they are just stretching things out.

Not SF, should be in the fantasy section
Revisado: 08-12-20
The story suspend all attempts at science and just makes it up as it goes. While the idea of dealing with emotions is okay, the failure to move beyond a basic attempt at dealing with young growing up issues is a let down. While Bray's performance is okay, he is a wrong person to play a young computer geek questioning his worth. Overall, it is just a let down and hard to finish as I lost interest in the outcome way to early.

Historia
When Minalan the Spellmonger was exiled from his beloved mageland of Sevendor by Prince Tavard, his friend Duke Anguin made him Count Palatine of the Magelaw, a vast realm in the Alshari Wilderlands that Minalan is all too familiar with. After the goblin invasion, the province is devastated, ruined, and peopled almost only by freed slaves. But Minalan has brought his recovering wife and family into exile with him, and he views their impoverished fief as an opportunity to build a new City of Magi in the wilderness.

A rehash of previous plots in the series
Revisado: 06-29-20
There is nothing new here. The book covers the same plots already done in the earlier books. I love my wife, I hire really good people and get out of their way, I feel guilty for not saving everyone, did I say that I love my wife, I hire really good people and throw money at then, I care about everyone, oh how I love my wife, my really good people saved everyone and I didn't have to do anything but stay out of their way and throw money at them.
There was nothing creative in this book, it is just a pulling of similar stories from earlier books and with a little rewrite presented as a new book that barely mores the story forward. In other words, it is a filler book, no new development of any type, so boring to the extreme.
