Historia
Ewan Cameron is a Vancouver-based journalist who has focused on exposing the lies and disinformation tactics of the pharmaceutical industry for more than a decade. A graduate of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, he completed his journalism studies in the early 2000's before joining a local newspaper, where he became disillusioned by his editor’s refusal to publish health-related and pollution-related news stories. The reason? They would upset their corporate clients on which the newspaper depended for advertising revenue.

This book is loaded with jargon and conspiracy. This is not a book about curing eczema.
The author even pushes the tired, old, dangerous, widely and universally discredited “vaccinations are to blame” theory and references some chiropractor in Michigan. Go watch a handful of “Eczema and dietary fiber” You Tube videos and you’ll be 10x better off helping your eczema than this nonsense.
The author has no education in this field and no right to use such a title. Sadly, he does eventual touch on a better healthy diet, but I’m throwing the baby out with bath water with this one. I’ll get dietary info and science from someone with a PhD.

Historia
A groundbreaking guide to the surprising source of good health. Genetics and lifestyle are thought to be the two most important determinants of good health. But that is not the whole story. We have a second genome, our gut bacteria, that sets the dial on our bodies. Unlike our DNA, we can influence the gut bacteria, or microbiota, to optimize all aspects of our health. In The Good Gut, noted Stanford researchers Justin and Erica Sonnenburg investigate how the trillions of microbes that reside in our gastrointestinal tract help define us.

Historia
In 1532, the 54-year-old Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro led a force of 167 men, including his four brothers, to the shores of Peru. Unbeknownst to the Spaniards, the Inca rulers of Peru had just fought a bloody civil war in which the emperor Atahualpa had defeated his brother, Huascar. Pizarro and his men soon clashed with Atahualpa and a huge force of Inca warriors at the Battle of Cajamarca.

Incredible, Fascinating, Epic !
Revisado: 07-23-17
I'm compelled to write a review after seeing some bad reviews. Are you people insane? These same reviewers cant possibly like Game of Thrones either. This is one the most astonishing historical accounts Ive ever heard.
The story of the "battle" of Cajamarca was absolutely astounding and worth the price of admission as a stand alone product.
This audible book is the story of how 168 men conquered 10 million in a few months. A story like this should completely demolish you. The overlying themes of greed, betrayal, and revenge are endlessly fascinating.
Also, as someone who has been to Cusco, the Inca trail, and Sacsayhuaman I can tell you this is essential listening. Walking through downtown and knowing about certain locations and artifacts was priceless. A truly mind blowing listen of the most epic proportions.
Highly recommend if you're in to history.

Historia
Drawing on startling new evidence from the mapping of the genome, an explosive new account of the genetic basis of race and its role in the human story. Human evolution, the consensus view insists, ended in prehistory. Inconveniently, as Nicholas Wade argues in A Troublesome Inheritance, the consensus view cannot be right. And in fact, we know that populations have changed in the past few thousand years - to be lactose tolerant, for example, and to survive at high altitudes.

An interesting hypothesis sure....
Revisado: 06-05-14
What did you like best about A Troublesome Inheritance? What did you like least?
An interesting hypothesis that warrants a discussion - perhaps not a full book? The least part was I liked was the first few chapters - almost returned it, but stuck it out. Enjoyed parts of the second half. A recall on Belayev's foxes experiment in this context is interesting
If you’ve listened to books by Nicholas Wade before, how does this one compare?
I haven't
Which scene was your favorite?
I learned that they burned dozens of cats alive at the public square in Medieval times - in front of the King. (Spoiler alert) . Perhaps we have developed a larger sense of empathy since then -- ok perhaps.
Could you see A Troublesome Inheritance being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Uh, No
Any additional comments?
A professor might say "An interesting hypothesis....let me know if anyone finds any evidence to support it." A long way to go to get to that conclusion.

Historia
A highly infectious, deadly virus from the central African rain forest suddenly appears in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. There is no cure. In a few days, 90 percent of its victims are dead. A secret military SWAT team of soldiers and scientists is mobilized to stop the outbreak of this exotic "hot" virus. The Hot Zone tells this dramatic story, giving a hair-raising account of the appearance of rare and lethal viruses and their "crashes" into the human race. Shocking, frightening, and impossible to ignore, The Hot Zone proves that truth really is scarier than fiction.

Terrifying true story is an understatement
Revisado: 08-07-13
What made the experience of listening to The Hot Zone the most enjoyable?
I was shitting my pants the entire story
What other book might you compare The Hot Zone to and why?
None that I've read were ever THIS scary
What does Richard M. Davidson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Huge fan of Davidson. I was yelling at the characters , NO!!, don't go in there, don't do that! He really makes you feel like you're there and then some.
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
That some strange zombie-like millions of years old virus existing in a state in between life and death is just waiting for you to come along to activate so it can melt your tissues. That's one helluva tidbit to pick up
Any additional comments?
Imagine having the job of killing 200 zombie monkeys.

Revisado: 08-07-13
Would you listen to Slavery by Another Name again? Why?
No. It's not entertaining. The stories are seared into one's memory.
Who was your favorite character and why?
No favorite character
Which scene was your favorite?
Suntrust revealing to its employees that the Bank's starting equity was largely the result of massive profits from slave labor well into the 1900s.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Same as book
Any additional comments?
Shocking. Powerful. Insightful. Must Listen American History

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

Sadly another fraud
Revisado: 08-07-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Anyone who enjoys manipulation
What could Eben Alexander have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Give 100 percent of the proceeds to charity
What didn’t you like about Eben Alexander’s performance?
Make no mistake about it. It's a masterful performance. It just wasn't the truth
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Proof of Heaven?
None. The book is a cash cow as is.
Any additional comments?
Save yourself from contributing to this fraud. It's a very, very convincing story. However, the author has been revealed as a fraud and a liar in court and in his medical career. Sad.
