Historia
The place: central Florida. The situation: a sensational murder trial, set in a courthouse more Soviet than Le Corbusier; a rich, white teenage girl - a twin - on trial for murdering her toddler brother. Two of the jurors: Hannah, a married 52-year-old former Rolling Stone and Interview Magazine photographer of rock stars and socialites, and Graham, a 41-year-old anatomy professor. Both are sequestered along with the other jurors at the Econo Lodge off I-75. Hannah and Graham fall into a furtive affair, keeping their oath as jurors never to discuss the trial.

Funny, serious, and immensely captivating
Revisado: 03-18-24
Humor in the first part gives way to serious human issues later only possibly resolved by the listener. I adore this book.

Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found. Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina.

Are You OK?
Revisado: 02-29-24
Is everything OK? Most of the dialogue is characters who know that things are not ok and repeatedly ask this question. Thin plot, verbose, repetitive. Morbidly curious about this drivel, Dear Listener, I made it to the end.

Historia
Summer is coming to a close on the East End of Long Island, and Alex is no longer welcome. A misstep at a dinner party, and the older man she’s been staying with dismisses her with a ride to the train station and a ticket back to the city. With few resources and a waterlogged phone, but gifted with an ability to navigate the desires of others, Alex stays on Long Island and drifts like a ghost through the hedged lanes, gated driveways, and sun-blasted dunes of a rarefied world that is, at first, closed to her.

Nothing happens. I kept listening for the story’s acceleration, but it never got off the ground. If you want to be stuck in a deranged character”s mind, listen to this depressive, hopeless tale.

Not worth it
Revisado: 10-07-23
The hype around this novel is hyperbolic. Too bad I fell for it. Aimed at the instagram - twitter-podcast -dependent youth, this story delivers all the psycho battle & drama they live for. If you are interested in literary fiction, do not waste time on this trite drivel.

Whispering Narrator
Revisado: 09-28-23
I wish I could have listened until the end of this story. The narrator got in my way. She comes to a full stop at the comma, and whispers when no character warrants that effect. I listened, all total, one hour at different intervals; but I could not persevere.

The Narrator Saved It
Revisado: 08-25-23
Had it not been for Meryl Streep, I would not have made it to the end of this tedium. Such boring characters, setting and monologue vex this listener‘s patience. I slept through some of it and had had no desire to backtrack to see what I missed. It did not matter.

Historia
Emma London never thought she had anything in common with her grandmother Genevieve London. The regal old woman came from wealthy and bluest-blood New England stock, but that didn't protect her from life's cruelest blows. Genevieve rose from the ashes of grief and built a fashion empire that was respected the world over, even when it meant neglecting her other son. When Emma's own mother died, her father abandoned her on his mother's doorstep. Genevieve took Emma in and reluctantly raised her - until Emma got pregnant her senior year of high school.

Horrid Narrator, Unrealistic Story
Revisado: 07-25-23
The narrator’s speech patterns grate on my nerves with her trendy rising notes at the end of sentences. The author skips over the mother’s formative years so that we get Mary Sunshine Wise Mom. This book is too far from
reality with all the tragedy neatly tied in a bow. Not worth the time.

Historia
It is a perfect July morning, and Elle, a 50-year-old happily married mother of three, awakens at “The Paper Palace” - the family summer place she has visited every summer of her life. But this morning is different: Last night, Elle and her oldest friend, Jonas, crept out the back door into the darkness and had sex with each other for the first time, all while their spouses chatted away inside. Now, Elle will have to decide between the life she has made with her genuinely beloved husband and the life she always imagined she would have had with her childhood love.

This is a slender story told in narrative flashbacks that tend to make the reader a bit dizzy & confused. Among the
traumas of parental divorces & step siblings & sexual abuse, a child grows up and makes a radical decision concerning her own marriage & children.

Historia
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Tender Insight
Revisado: 03-14-23
This narrative rewards the reader with hope and understanding for the plight of being human. It opens slowly, but gains momentum as the story moves forward. Looking through the eyes of a young, developmentally challenged hotel maid gives the reader a chance to to feel invisibility and the derision suffered by many workers of “menial” jobs. Truth, however, triumphs, turning The Maid”. Into a must listen.

Disappointing
Revisado: 03-04-23
The plot was predictable and slowly paced until the end when, all at once, a flock of
new characters were thrown at us. Tying up loose ends seemed like an afterthought. And Joe Gunther? Why was he mainly missing? More Joe, please, and less minor characters who make first appearances here and take up too much wandering narrative in this Joe Gunther series.
