Historia
Dr. Jake Ross, a university astronomer, wants nothing more than to teach a few classes each semester and continue his research. Instead, he finds himself aggressively recruited to be the science advisor to Frank Tomlinson, an ambitious politician with his eye on the US Senate. Tomlinson is in need of an edge that will allow him to defeat his opponent at the polls, and Dr. Ross can contribute just that: MHD. MHD, or magnetohydrodynamics, is a new innovation that will allow electricity to be generated efficiently and cheaply. But MHD is still in its infancy, and there are deadly risks.

Not bad
Revisado: 06-21-12
I love Ben Bova books. That being said, this one is just OK. It is a decent story and good science. I thoroughly enjoyed it but it is not one of his best. I would still recommend is as Ben Bova, at his worst, is still fanatastic.

Good science fiction
Revisado: 06-21-12
I personally like the Honor Harrington series. It is military science fiction. This is not usually my favorite genre, but this series is well written. This book contains great short stories that fill in Honor's background or flesh out that universe. Good stuff.

Not just for kids
Revisado: 06-21-12
This book is classic Heinlein. Yes, it is marketed as a young adult novel but it never feels juvenile. Great adventure story. This is early Heinlein which I consider better than a lot of his later works.

Historia
Hell's too full, so the Devil hires ad man Dirk Quigby to pen a travel guide enticing travelers to different afterlives: Hindu, Catholic, Protestant (that one's got a lot of subdivisions), Scientologist, and more. Instead of writing a boffo best seller, Dirk unites all religions in a common goal: kill Dirk. E. E. King grew up in one of those tolerant households that don't force religion down kids' throats. This is the result.

Boring, preachy, over emphasis on religion
Revisado: 12-05-11
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different story line
What does Stefan Rudnicki bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Stefen Rudnicki is one of my favorites.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Boredom, exasperation
Any additional comments?
I am usually a fan of OSC. I know that occasionally he gets preachy, or emphasizes religion, but it is usually kept as a side element. This book though was a book about Mormonism. The story about the lost boys was a side story.

Interesting outlook on what could happen with genetic modifications of food and people. Pleasantly surprised by how good it was. One of the years best and unique science fiction books.

Historia
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

HORRIBLE
Revisado: 07-05-05
This is the first review I have taken the time to write. This book was so awful that I felt the need to warn others. Many of the other reviewers have compared the writing to some of the truly great SF writers. That is an insult. There were some interesting ideas, but the story line as a whole, was not good. Most importantly, the writing was atrocious. It often reads like a cheap detective novel. And then there were the gratuitous sex scenes. I'm not normally prudish, but they were unnecessarily graphic. We're talking Hustler graphic not Playboy.
I have been reading sf and its sub-genres for 25 yrs now and have not come across this poorly written of book ever. I cannot believe it was published. To compare it to Stephenson or to Gibson is to insult 2 very talented writer. If you are a true SF or cyberpunk fan avoid this book!!!
