Historia
Sixteen-year-old John Grady Cole's grandfather has just died, his parents have permanently separated, and the family ranch, upon which he had placed so many boyish hopes, has been sold. Rootless and increasingly restive, Cole leaves Texas, accompanied by his friend Lacey Rawlins, and begins a journey across the vaquero frontier into the badlands of northern Mexico.

I've been told this is a classic.
Revisado: 01-27-23
So just because something is a "classic" doesn't mean it's actually any good. Much like AC/DC or the Rolling Stones how they are said to be classics or great by most, I find them intolerable to listen to. This book falls very much in that category. I could hardly hear the deep soft quiet narrator. I also don't understand Spanish, and a guy just plain gets lost throughout this book. I would rewind or go back several chapters even because without even realizing, I completely tuned this book out. I wanted to like it, but flat out didn't. I kept waiting for the story to build and get to the good part but just couldn't. All the Pretty Horses is the only title I've paid to listen to and ultimately walked out in the middle because I couldn't stand any more. I'm gonna go ahead and cross the boarder trilogy off my reading/listening list.

Historia
Fifteen Montana cowboys and 500 longhorns are embarking on a one-of-a-kind Wild West adventure: a cattle drive across 1,000 miles of Siberia. The clash of cultures between East and West, American six shooter and Russian saber, begins immediately when a band of Cossacks arrives to escort them to their destination. Cowboys and Cossacks must work together or they’ll never survive the journey, which includes a meeting with the warrior Genghis Kharlagawl and his army of bloodthirsty Tartars.

An all time favorite of mine
Revisado: 01-26-23
To me, this is one of those books I revisit every other year or so. Having just listened to it for the first time I was quite pleased with the narrator, and his different voices for the characters. As I was coming of age, I can identify with Levi and the way he looked up to those tough honest men such as Shad or Rostov. I love westerns and the cowboy way of life. This is a great read, I highly recommend!

Historia
Emmy Award - winning filmmaker, writer, and naturalist Joe Hutto has done it again. Touching the Wild is the enchanting story about one man who has lived with a herd of mule deer in the Wind River mountains of Wyoming for almost seven years. Why, you may ask, would a person choose to do such a thing? His response: how could you not? For Joe Hutto, close proximity to wild things is irresistible. In Illumination in the Flatwoods he unveiled the secret lives of the wild turkey to great critical acclaim.

Fascinating book!
Revisado: 04-13-22
To all you wildlife lovers and hunters alike, this is such a good listen/read. I've learned so much through Joe's perspective that as soon as I finished it. I started it over and listened again. I hope I never see the day the mule deer vanishes from my landscape and the places I love. This book has inspired me to do more to help, get involved, and donate more money to the foundations who care.
