Historia
Across two parallel narratives, Murakami draws listeners into a mind-bending universe in which Lauren Bacall, Bob Dylan, a split-brained data processor, a deranged scientist, his shockingly undemure granddaughter, and various thugs, librarians, and subterranean monsters collide to dazzling effect. What emerges is a novel that is at once hilariously funny and a deeply serious meditation on the nature and uses of the mind.

A preview of things to come
Revisado: 04-01-24
The City and its uncertain walls sounds as if it definitely is an extension of this novel! If so, that is quite exciting. Reading this novel, one sees the blend of science fiction and the dreamlike state that Murakami seemingly so effortlessly blends together. It really is two novels in one and now with his newest novel being released it seems that the dreamlike world of this city where shadows can be separated from their owners will get a feature length rendition from Mr. Murakami ! I’m going to re-read this novel to prep for the next !

Amazing Reading
Revisado: 03-02-24
When I first saw who was reading this book, I became very excited! Let me tell you I was not disappointed. I had first seen Toby Stephens as the captain in Black Sails, and absolutely adored the character he played. He is a brilliant actor, and now I realize a brilliant voice actor as well. He is able to do multiple voices with consistency and you truly do forget that there is only one person reading this novel. I have read the actual novel and loved it then and now love it even more thanks to this rendition. This is a must listen, and a must read!

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Very Engaging & Honest
Revisado: 01-27-23
Hearing Prince Harry read this book made it that much more special to me. I will listen to it again, especially when I want to experience Africa the way Prince Harry describes it!
My wife claims I cheat when I listen to a book and not read it for myself, however I disagree. There is NOTHING like it, hearing an author; especially if it’s a memoir, read his or her own work. These are his words and his inflections matter.
From listening to him recount the pleasant memories of his father and brother, to hearing him speak of the special relationship he had with his Granny, parts of this book moved me tremendously. Other parts made me feel sad for him, for his wife and his family. The press in Britain are shameful concerning the Royals.
However, this book, truly makes me want to be a better husband. This man left his country to protect his family. THAT is being a true hero. He put the mental health of himself and his entire family first. If that’s not princely, then I don’t know what else people want!
Listen to it, let it soak in. Reflect upon your own familial relationships, it will do you good. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Third time reading this novel
Revisado: 05-21-22
First I read the novel, legitimately. One of my favorite Murakami novels. Now I’ve listened to it twice for a total of three run throughs. Kirby does an amazing job with the voices, to the point you think there are two narrators! I highly recommend this novel. It is a fantastic story with great characters.

This novel really does channel Ian Flemings novels! Highly recommend it. The narrator does an amazing job with all the voices and accents. Really puts you into the middle of the story! A must read and listen! Have listened to it twice and bought the hard copy. Going to read it for myself now!

Revisado: 10-31-20
These are the types of books I wish high school students would get to read! So relatable as a story and the story is timeless. Any age reader can appreciate the struggles of identity, belonging and the importance of family. All of this while trying to unearth family secrets that are sometimes left forgotten for a reason. Frankie Corazon does a MARVELOUS narrating as usual!

Submarine Horror Story
Revisado: 10-23-20
This was a FUN book! The narrator did an AMAZING job with the various voices and the accents. I’ve found a new favorite author and narrator! I almost became a naval submariner myself, so the descriptions of life on a submarine were even more fascinating to me! I also watched the Call of the Wolf French film on Netflix halfway thru reading/listening to this book which gave me an even better understanding of life aboard a cramped submarine. If you like suspense, horror, and military themed novels then THIS book is for you!!

In the movies, robots can be terrifying. In this stirring, visionary work, acclaimed roboticist Dr. Ayanna Howard explores how the tech world’s racial and sexual biases are infecting the next generation of Artificial Intelligence, with profoundly negative effects for humans of all genders and races.

Makes you ponder the future of tech
Revisado: 10-16-20
First off, the narrator Amandla Stenberg was amazing! Her voice inflection, her passion for the topic came through beautifully! I truly hope Audible employs her voice acting for more projects! The content of this book touches upon many, many aspects of our lives! I was surprised to learn about chat bots, and the algorithms that continually feed you more of what you search for. The information about how and where AI is being used was surprisingly fascinating! I applaud Dr. Ayanna Howard for her dedication to her profession (never giving up despite the pushback she received) and her willingness to pull back the digital curtain showing us how and why AI is biased. I truly enjoyed this informative book! So much to learn in a easy to digest format!

A True Gothic Novel
Revisado: 10-09-20
I enjoyed this novel. It was very good. However, I feel it could have been GREAT if the author had found a way to express the fury and outrage of the female character other than swearing, halfway through the novel. As an aspiring author myself, (currently unpublished, for now) I’ve read that cursing in a novel is discouraged and that it turns off the audience in many cases. I didn’t fully agree with that statement I’d heard and read from many sources, but in this case it jarred me out of the time period and made the book feel like a contemporary story instead of a gothic story, yet it only happens a few times. I was pulled back into the time period shortly after so it doesn’t affect the book in a major way, but I’d caution the author that it did make the book feel like a part of our time period which I don’t think the author intended. I DO recommend this novel as it is very well written and Noemi is a superb female protagonist ! I was rooting for her the entire time. And yet you don’t have the feeling that any of the characters are immune to death in this novel. This threat of death is palpable and inspires you to continue with the story. Noemi is a very well constructed character worthy of a Netflix series hands down! I would LOVE to see a future sequel to this novel. I hope that my female protagonists will take shape and be as three dimensional as Noemi!

Another Bond Delight
Revisado: 04-10-20
I have been working my way through the James Bond series and having just recently finished You Only Live Twice I can honestly say that this novel and the performance of it were spot on ! I enjoyed the actor’s varied voices and really thought that Tiger’s voice was amazing! And then when the narrator slid from character to character he effectively stayed in character! It was a true delight! I highly recommend this novel!
