You Do You is a work I find conceptually appealing -- a collection of stories by queer people about their experiences, celebrating the breadth of the queer community -- but the execution makes it difficult to recommend. Some stories are funny, some are poignant, but mostly what they are is drawn out to the point of tedium. The payoff doesn't match the build up, and the mishandling of several spectacular premises (such as a drag queen trying to navigate customs in the United Arab Emirates) is genuinely frustrating. None of these stories is truly bad, but very few of them are notably good, either. I'd be vaguely disappointed by a queer variety night in a local bar of this quality, and as part of a work with this kind of profile and star power backing it, this is a rather baffling deficit.
