Historia
The Chinese have captured Seattle!
In 1949, the government of the Republic of China fled to the island of Taiwan. For nearly 70 years, mainland China wanted to take the island back and unite the nation under one flag, the Communist flag. Their desire was thwarted by US support for Taiwan, until the Chinese conceived and executed the perfect plan to keep the US out of the war for Taiwan, an invasion of Seattle!

Although a bit short, very good story and narration
Revisado: 03-30-21
I enjoyed this book. It takes place in 2018, which is kind of fun to think about in 2021. The narrator was very good and helped keep my interest. I lost track of time while reading...always a good sign for me.

An Entertaining Version of a Classic Story
Revisado: 07-30-20
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I requested a copy of this book from the author and agreed that I would review it. The narration was solid, but not spectacular. The book is an account which includes the retelling of Peter Pan, but from the point of view of the magical clan of Tinkerbell. Their motivations are vastly different than that of the humans. I ended up reading this in two days.

Good, suspenseful Mystery
Revisado: 07-08-20
The story was really good. The narration was fine; nothing special, but it doesn’t detract from the story.

Historia
In 1954, the United States was attacked by beings called Eban from another world. President Eisenhower was coerced into signing a treaty after we lost over 200 pilots in this initial strike. The government has managed to keep this treaty secret since and they became known as the "Greys." Part of the treaty forced the use of land for two alien bases. One is commonly called Area 51, and the other is somewhere in New Mexico. In the years to follow, animal mutilations, abductions, and UFO sightings became part of urban folklore.

Ballad” is in the Title, but narrator won’t sing?
Revisado: 05-28-20
Why, oh why did they choose a narrator who won’t sing when singing is integral to the story? Right before I listened to this book, I listened to the “Hunger Games” trilogy. Ironically, the narrator in those books sang when the character(s) in the book was singing.
That being said, the prequel was interesting: especially seeing how the protagonist evolves throughout the book.

Straightforward Dystopian Story
Revisado: 05-05-20
There was nothing that stood out for me about this book: Loss of power grid and the resulting chaos. No big surprises, this was the second book, so maybe the characters were developed in the first book more.
The narration was fine, but not great.

There was nothing spectacular about this book: the story and characters were good, the plot (including twists) was sound. The narration was very good. It’s about what you would expect from a prime unlimited title.

Enjoyable Sci-Fi Read
Revisado: 10-25-19
This is my first exposure to the writings of Rachel Aukes. I'd have to say that I enjoyed it. I made a request to the author for this series and agreed to review it after completion.
The setting is Earth. Three different races (human and two alien) are introduced, and we are taken through a series of events from each race's perspective. The biggest lesson, to me, is that you can't judge an entire group, but, rather, you have to know individuals to base your judgement.
The narration was good. A small annoyance was that the narrator gave one alien race a French accent and the other a Slavic accent, but it did serve to differentiate who was speaking when all three races were present.

A Solid Nature Apocalypse Story
Revisado: 10-19-19
Right now, it seems like the post-apocalyptic genre is all the rage right now: either a plague has decimated humanity, or nuclear devestation has occurred-- all of it a result of humanity's short-sightedness in one way or another. This is a refreshing change in that, a natural phenomenon, plates shifting reassigning the Arctic regions of the earth, and how those in the affected area adapt.
This is a complete 3-book set which I requested from the author agreeing the review it after reading.
I enjoyed the story although I thought that the protagonist was slow to adapt to the changes (especially moral/ethical adjustments to the situations and what is required to survive).
The narration was solid and, in no way, detracted from the book.

A Great New Author For Me
Revisado: 10-07-19
I just finished this series (I read the whole thing in less than a week). I found it very enjoyable with characters that were interesting and believable, plots that captivated me, satisfying resolutions, with just enough left to keep me coming back for more.
One of the things I liked most about the series is that I could listen to it with my kids without worrying that there would be inappropriate language or situations (there is death, love, etc. just not graphic or overly intimate in detail).
The narration was great as well. I could tell the different characters according to voice tone and inflection. This is the first series from Jeff Wheeler and I look forward to reading more of his work.
