The book had some good parts, but was largely underwhelming. The discussion of narrative devices was simply not sophisticated enough to be stirring.

I was looking forward to this one, but was bored from start to finish. Losing a parent and finding a lover are not terribly interesting in themselves, though a good memoirist can make gold of straw. I had hoped for deeper, richer insights on grief, love, losing, finding. This is just not a very thoughtful exploration of any of the above.

I saw the reviews indicating that the book has little plot, mostly philosophical musings. I purchased anyway, as I tend to like memoirists’ musings. The problem is that Viren’s are not provocative. The book lacks plot and profundity. Without either, there is little to recommend.
