I’m a huge Stephen Mitchell fan. His translations of the Bhagavad Gita and the Book of Job are wonderful, and his midrash on the Joseph of Egypt story (Joseph and the Way of Forgiveness) is among my favorite books of all time.

But it was his translation of the Tao Te Ching that inspired me to search out his other work. Lit up by the Tao, I read and listened to several translations of it. No others captured the beautifully simple, deep poetry of this translation.

The Tao is a jewel, a gift to anyone attempting to walk consciously on the spiritual path. May each of us enjoy learning from it and come to embody its deep wisdom.

These poems received through the Sufi master Hafiz are beautiful beyond belief. Each is a masterpiece; each opens itself to the mind a little more with every reading. But the play between the music and the poetry in this recording takes the experience to another realm: pure magic.
