Historia
In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.

a little slow and difficult to understand
Revisado: 01-05-19
This was a good story and had an overall good moral, but was very slow in development and at times the British accents were hard to discern, leaving me questioning what they said.

Historia
A report on how the greed of a privileged few, subsidized by public funding, creates substantial profits for themselves from mass human suffering. This was a speech given by General Butler during a nationwide tour in the early 1930's, but it applies even more today! Listen as he frankly discusses, from his experience as a career military officer, how business interests commercially benefit from warfare. He then suggests several practical solutions for reducing the pillage.

Historia
Soon after WWII, U.S. statesman Dean Acheson warned that creating Israel on land already inhabited by Palestinians would "imperil" both American and all Western interests in the region. Despite warnings such as this one, President Truman supported establishing a Jewish state on land primarily inhabited by Muslims and Christians.

This is a very concise, factual point of view
Revisado: 12-27-16
This concise departure from popular opinion is an important read and should be considered in any discussion of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The content is well studied with plenty of citation of other scholarly material. The narration was dry, but understandable. Overall, this is excellent material.

Historia
When Bernie Sanders began his race for the presidency, it was considered by the political establishment and the media to be a "fringe" campaign, something not to be taken seriously. After all, he was just an independent senator from a small state with little name recognition. His campaign had no money, no political organization, and it was taking on the entire Democratic Party establishment. By the time Sanders' campaign came to a close, however, it was clear that the pundits had gotten it wrong.

inspiration defined
Revisado: 12-20-16
This is one of the must most inspirational pieces I've read in awhile. it made me happy, sad, angry and I appreciated every section. Bernie reads about half and Mark Ruffalo reads the second half with Bernie finishing out. This is an amazing work.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Historia
In this definitive history of the modern Arab world, award-winning historian Eugene Rogan draws extensively on Arab sources and texts to place the Arab experience in its crucial historical context for the first time. Tracing five centuries of Arab history, Rogan reveals that there was an age when the Arabs set the rules for the rest of the world. Today, however, the Arab world's sense of subjection to external powers carries vast consequences for both the region and Westerners who attempt to control it.

Historia
A brilliant and utterly original thinker, Andrew Solomon's journey began from his experience of being the gay child of straight parents. He wondered how other families accommodate children who have a variety of differences: families of people who are deaf, who are dwarfs, who have Down syndrome, who have autism, who have schizophrenia, who have multiple severe disabilities, who are prodigies, who commit crimes, who are transgender.

This is the best book I've ever read!
Revisado: 09-05-16
The social commentary provided by Andrew Solomon is quite profound. The stories contained came alive and personalized the, sometimes, nebulous social situations contained within society. This is an opus that is ever so helpful, especially for those in the helping professions, but for all of humanity.

Listeners of all ages have followed her faith journey through decades of trial and error (sometimes more error than Annie wanted), and in her new book, she has coalesced all she knows about prayer to three essentials: Help, Thanks, and Wow. It is these three prayers - asking for assistance from a higher power, appreciating all that we have and all that is good, and feeling awe at the beauty of the world around us - that can get us through the day and can show us the way forward.

wonderful content, monotonously presented
Revisado: 05-20-15
This is an excellent book which is simple to listen to but quite profound. I would like to hear some more in motion coming from the reader. It was read by the author, so that is a plus. Unfortunately the reading was passionless.
