Historia
Health and wellness campaigns preach avoidance of unhealthy foods, sedentary lifestyles, tobacco, drugs, and alcohol, but rarely preach avoidance of unhealthy, difficult, or toxic people. Yet the health benefits of removing toxic people from your life may have far greater benefits to both physical and psychological health. We need to learn to be better gatekeepers for our minds, bodies, and souls. Narcissism, entitlement, and incivility have become the new world order, and we are all in trouble. They are not only normalized but also increasingly incentivized.

Dr. Ramani Durvasula is truly and amazing human and scholar. Her work on narcissism is unparalleled. I have been following her YouTube channel for years and only recently purchased her book. If I had known how excellent and comprehensive her book was, I would have stopped here first and bypassed all YouTubers. As a result I purchased all of her books. She is an excellent writer and researcher and I am incredibly grateful for her information and suggested strategies. I might actually find some peace after dealing with narcissists for 50 years. A million thanks, Dr. Ramani.

For basic sanity I agree with the general advice of radically accepting you can’t win with a narcissist or toxic person. They won’t allow it. They won’t let it go. Their narratives and delusions tell them they’ve “won” and all is moot.
But when it comes to fighting in the legal system, if you don’t understand the dynamics you’re up against with people who think this way, you’re in for a world of hurt and more potential trauma.
Rebecca lays out great advice and her stories are relevant. I’ve had to deal legally with both former romantic partners and a former business partner and this book would have helped me years ago. I’m grateful for it now as well as my ex-husband has resurrected some legal issues and this book brought me back to sanity and empowerment.
The first couple of chapters are a review of narcissism. If you’re like me and have spent years learning about it, it will be mostly a review to you.
The following chapters are gold. Rebecca’s distinction between diamond level and coal level supply is brilliant.
I would have liked to have had more information about what to do if you’ve already fallen prey to some of the narc’s tactics and reacted. There was one point in the book I felt like giving up because I didn’t have her advice soon enough, but I listened to the end and I feel heartened.
Thank you Rebecca. I appreciate that you have given us access to your amazing advice.
Five stars all day long.
