Historia
Robert Rothmore, Earl of Rockford, thinks Alissa Henning is simply delightful-exactly the kind of woman who'd make the perfect mother for his sons. But Alissa swore she'd spend the rest of her life scraping pennies together rather than wed the insufferable earl and become a glorified governess. Still, she couldn't very well let her own children starve - and there was no doubt that Rockford would give them all a good life. So, she reluctantly accepts his offer...but there's more to a good life than what's in one's pockets.

I love everything by Barbara Metzger! “Wedded Bliss” is one of her best! The narrator takes some getting used to but then great listening!

Predictable but not offensively
Revisado: 09-18-24
Story was ok. Nicely narrated. A story for a busy day because its predictability allows for only partial attention.
The title is a little misleading though, (spoiler!!). The hero doesn’t become an earl until the very last line of the novel.

So well done!
Revisado: 07-20-24
The story of the brilliant woman doctor whose skill allowed her to discover the structure of DNA in 1953. A woman PhD at Oxford in the early 1950’s was alone, no other women, surrounded by all male scientists, who couldn’t quite understand why she was there and not married.
This short drama beautifully reveals the misogyny that Roselyn had to struggle against everyday to be taken seriously. No one called her doctor, few acknowledged her when presenting her work.
The end of her story was too soon. She died at 36yo of breast cancer. The developing science of bio genetics lost one of its most brilliant scientists when she died so young. And we have all been deprived the wonders that she could have discovered.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-31-23
Almost a good story, but rather silly at times and annoying at other times. Possibly because it’s a children’s story?

Historia
The Earth teems with life: in its oceans, forests, skies, and cities. Yet there's a black hole at the heart of biology. We do not know why complex life is the way it is, or, for that matter, how life first began. In The Vital Question, award-winning author and biochemist Nick Lane radically reframes evolutionary history, putting forward a solution to conundrums that have puzzled generations of scientists.

Wrong!!
Revisado: 07-23-23
The premise is “evolution has a black hole” as to why prokaryotes (not a word he uses) became eukaryotes (again, not a word he uses). And this is both wrong and uninformed. There is ALOT of understanding of this “black hole”!
I couldn’t read past the intro where this is stated. Such a fundamental ignorance of the 3 billion year evolution of cells, doesn’t bode well for whatever else he has to say!

Historia
All of London is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Wulfric Bedwyn, the reclusive, cold-as-ice Duke of Bewcastle, at the most glittering social event of the season. Some whisper of a tragic love affair. Others say he is so aloof and passionless that not even the greatest beauty could capture his attention. But on this dazzling afternoon, one woman did catch the duke's eye - and she was the only female in the room who wasn't even trying.

Regency romance excellently written by Loretta Chase, her very best in my opinion. From the opening lines through to the last, the characters jump off the page, intelligent and confident, as they battle each other and their own selves. Wonderful read!

Historia
Christmas is the single biggest annual event on the planet, a time for merry-making, over-indulgence, peace, goodwill, and the occasional family row. It’s as comfortable and familiar as a pair of old shoes and yet still glittery and exciting. But what do you really know about it? It’s stuffed full of traditions and rituals that most of us have been observing all our lives without having the slightest idea of where they come from.
