Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Sedaris Ripening
Revisado: 05-31-18
Like a fine wine or a stinky cheese, his work just keeps getting better with age.
Less cagey about his personal feelings and more forthcoming about what it’s like to be David now, I really enjoyed being taken on another Sedaris ride.
His brilliant observations and word smithing set him apart as one of my favorite story tellers. And this book delivers as much gut-splitting humor, gross-outs and melancholic narrative as I’ve come to anticipate and relish from him.
I particularly like the story about his friend Lyn who took him seriously when he played his Trump joke. She’s a friend of mine and couldn’t believe he had betrayed her. I was cracking up and reassuring her it was just his sense of humor. She was SO relieved to be reassured David wasn’t a fan of tRump and that she hadn’t ruined their friendship.
There is no other like him. A literary treasure.

Historia
Over the course of a 30-year career, Eddie Izzard has proven himself to be a creative chameleon, inhabiting the stage and film and television screens with an unbelievable fervor. Born in Yemen and raised in Ireland, Wales, and postwar England, he lost his mother at the age of six. In his teens he dropped out of university and took to the streets of London as part of a two-man escape act; when his partner went on vacation, Izzard kept busy by inventing a one-man act, and thus a career was ignited.

Not A Bother
Revisado: 07-11-17
So grateful you wrote this and over the moon that you read it aloud to us with the wealth of footnotes. Self-revelation is not only therapeutic for the writer but cathartic for those who witness it. Thank you for the excellent composition of your life as you experienced it, recalled it and learned from it.
My intention is that one day we will work on a project together allowing for our tectonic plates to come together for a time before they drift apart again, possibly for forever. What I will cherish is the exploration of ideas and the riffing. Offering my moments of "Aha!" and hearing your inspiration about it.
I've always loved working on a team and find that "solo" is where I best succeed. Born 11/11/63 I can relate to the times you grew up in and your love of the numerology of things.
For now I look forward to a future collaboration and your next autobiography in 20 years time. Cheers.

Historia
Growing up in a Tibetan Monastery, Ten dreamed of becoming a modern-day Sherlock Holmes. So when he was sent to Los Angeles to teach meditation, he joined the LAPD instead. But as the Buddha says, change is inevitable; and 10 years later, everything is about to change-big-time-for Ten. One resignation from the police force, two bullet-wounds, three suspicious deaths, and a beautiful woman later, he quickly learns that whenever he breaks his first rule, mayhem follows.

Stellar wordsmith

There were so many phrases that I rewound to re-hear. Some were profound, some funny, some just plain clever as hell.
It kept my attention and I cared deeply about the character… and his cat.
Can't wait to listen to them all. Highly recommend and would love to see this as a series on TV!
