So fun! More please.

I swear there had to be more than one person narrating this. Bravo to BJ Whimpey and cheers to Shane K. Morton. I was so hooked with how these over the top and in-depth characters were brought to life through the performance and the story was ever so intriguing and charming. A great balance of necessity, humor and flow. Though it was refreshing to see LGBTQ centralized characters, there were no uncomfortably sexual or overly descriptive moments, making this an ideal listen for really anyone who truly enjoys a small town murder mystery where gossip takes over and red herrings have you constantly making whodunit assumptions. But you’ll be wrong! Looking forward to the next book in this series and hope to see a return of this Morton-Whimpey pairing.

Historia
Army vet Dwayne Sullivan has escaped from prison in order to keep an other-dimensional artifact out of the wrong hands. To do this, he needs the help of superheroes, powerful meta-human do-gooders who are the heart and soul of Hammer City. But those heroes are being recruited by General Gordon, the very same military general who imprisoned Dwayne in the first place.

Better than the first!

I enjoyed the writing in this book more then the first. It stayed more on a set path and was a quick and enjoyable listen. Not completely feeling some of the story lines and hook-ups, but looking forward to see where the superhero arc goes in book 3.
Thrilled to hear the narration performed by B.J. Whimpey again. Always nice to have the characters represented consistently from book to book in a series, and Mr. Whimpey adds a delightful amount of life and drama to each.

Historia
Two superheroes become suspicious of their city's most powerful hero, the seemingly-invulnerable Magma Man, when something he says during a poker game doesn't add up. Why would he lie? Was he trying to protect someone? Was he drunk? Okay, he was probably drunk. But, is he in league with the villain? Is he the villain? And if he is, how can he be stopped? Follow Speed Chicken and Cambio as they pursue the answers to these questions, putting them in cahoots with a powerless wannabe superhero named Wombat, and realize that the fate of an entire planet weighs in the balance.

Story: Not too shabby. Performance: On Point
Revisado: 07-17-20
A quick listen on a subtle tribute to some of my favorite superheroes. Though the characters were familiar, it was pleasing to have some unexpected plot twists to throw off my preconceived expectations. I did find it a bit unappealing to have a fictional place and other fantasy world scenarios mixed in with random mentions of real life current affairs. Throwing in conversations on bin Laden, Sarah Palin and Jay-Z really took away from the charm and potential timelessness of the story. More explanation on how Wombat all of a sudden became such a bad-a would be ideal. The narration was face paced and enjoyable. I appreciated how the characters were brought to life without being over bearing or vocally annoying. I look forward to seeing what happens next and I hope to hear the same voice over performer moving forward.
