Great story, didn’t like the narration

Story was a great read but I couldn’t listen to it. The narrator has a really repetitive cadence, no variation, so I found myself spacing out in the story because every sentence sounded the exact same and a bit robotic.

Cringey male lead, bad voice acting

I’ve listened to close to 50 fantasy/romance audiobooks and I have never had to quit on the first book, until this one.

Voice actors- the female VA does a good job acting as the female MC, but when she plays other characters, she nearly whispers (even during fight or yelling scenes). The male VA sounds elderly, which doesn’t fit the description of the male MC.

Character development- all of the important characters have these complicated ancestries and lineage that is hard to track, especially since it spans across several different mythical worlds (Greek+Christian+Norse+other). It didn’t become anything that impacted storyline, so it just felt like filler/background noise.

Unrealistic sex and fight scenes - ok, we all love some over the top fight and sex scenes. We are reading fantasy after all. But these were cringey. Lots of casual talking during sex, like long drawn out conversations about something unrelated.

Overall, it was cringey and very difficult to connect with the characters.

I have never loved a fantasy series so much! The depth of characters is so carefully and intentionally woven together to create a world worth immersing yourself in. As a reader, you fall in love with the cultures the characters live in, get to draw lines between Easter eggs from the beginning to the end, and are continuously surprised. A must read!
